Chat messages sometimes do not appear in main TextChatService window

Sometimes when sending a chat in an experience using TextChatService, the message will not appear in the chat window. The message still appears in the form of a chat bubble. This happens unpredictably about 1/20 times, and there are no clear indications of what causes it.

I will try to reply to this topic with a screenshot showing the issue the next time I encounter it. This issue has been happening for several months now.

Expected behavior

I expect my message to appear both as a chat bubble and in the chat window 100% of the time. If there is a reason for the message to not send, I expect some indication (as a notification or a system chat) explaining why the message was not sent.

I also experience this. I was able to figure out how to reproduce this just now!

Run this script a few times in the command bar (it starts occurring around after running 6 times):
for i=1,10 do game.TextChatService.TextChannels.RBXSystem:DisplaySystemMessage(i) end

It will only start displaying “10” in the chat after repeatedly running that script.

This has happened to me several times too. Not sure if it also affects games that have bubble chat disabled or not.

Hello. Thank you for your report. This is a likely a separate issue related more closely to this reported bug, :DisplaySystemMessages() insert messages into text chat randomly instead of at the bottom. Please follow this report post for updates regarding the DisplaySystemMessages ordering bug.

Hello, thank you for your report. We will look into this issue. If you wouldn’t mind sharing more details regarding the bug, is there a specific platform where you are experiencing the bug?

I encountered this on MacOS 15.7.1, on a 2025 Macbook Pro. I can ask around to see if anyone else has encountered this on Windows.

Update on this: I just got a case where the message did appear, but was placed incorrectly in the chat window.

Here, I sent three messages in total, but the 3rd message was placed before my two older messages. Initially, I thought my message did not appear at all (like in the bug report) but after looking further I realized it was instead in an unexpected place.

It’s possible that either all or some of the cases where it seems likes a message didn’t appear were actually caused by this, but I have no way to be sure.

Awesome, thanks for the context. We going to continue investigating this issue in this thread: :DisplaySystemMessages() insert messages into text chat randomly instead of at the bottom as mentioned by @AliceLostInWonder
