Closing topics after a certain period of time in development discussion

Hi, I’ve started noticing that old topics that are a year or so older are starting to receive replies, some of which are just deleted and “bumps” the topic, then a swarm of users start to reply. I’m requesting that after a certain period of time like 2 weeks to a month after the last reply, the topic becomes closed as the topic has died down. I just feel that there isn’t a point in having a topic open after a discussion has ended and allow users to “bump” the topic.

Authors can request their topic to be locked, if they flag their own topic and set the reason for “Something Else”.

In order to add on the things that were stated above, there’s a chance that meaningful replies could be made on those old topics, so it might not be worth locking them down after a long period of inactivity.

Its better than people creating the same topic every time the old topic is locked.

What is the difference between locking and unlisting? Doesn’t locking mean users cant reply, whereas unlisting means users can’t find the topic; it’s hidden?

I do agree that it’s probably better to get the author’s consent to close it, but some of these replies are downright pointless.

Maybe if the necro-ing reply is marked as spam, the topic is put back to its original position before the bump.

Yup and yup. Unlisted topics won’t appear anywhere in the list, so you would only be able to access such topics if you have their link in the first place.

Lock: Nobody (except forum staff and TL4) can reply, people can still like and view the topic.
Unlist: Nobody can view the topic unless they have a direct link (it won’t appear on any lists; unsure about notifications)
Archive: Nobody (except forum staff and TL4) can reply, like, or edit any posts in the topic (including their own). Apparently archiving also hides the topic from a few lists too.

That’s not the case I’ve seen, they are mostly spam or just a deleted post that bumps the topic

Your right. Locking means that the member can’t reply to the topic. Unlisting mean that it won’t appear in the list of Development Discussion. Hope it helps answer your question.

To clarify on this since someone may take it at face value: moderation will only follow through if there is a noticeable issue with the responses or if the thread isn’t useful to anyone. Any resourceful thread still producing valuable discussion for other users will not be locked.
