Please revert this update or at least let us adjust stiffness and puffiness again. All my rigs with layered clothing have been ruined. Not only does it ruin the way the clothes look but it’s also buggy.
I totally agree, this update sucks! It’s ruining all my avatars and I’m NOT happy >:( change it back!
Can you build a skinned rig? Roblox ruined my avatar too and I haven’t got the courage to learn advanced blender just to rebuild it into a bundle.
I hate this update just as much as you, but please don’t spam the forum.
If anyone wants to disable this update in Studio, you can do this (for now):
- Right-click on the “Roblox Studio” shortcut on your desktop and choose “Open file location”.
- In the specific version folder that opens, create a new folder named “ClientSettings”.
- Inside “ClientSettings”, place this file: ClientAppSettings.json (1.6 KB)
- Restart Studio.
Just going to quickly grab .objs of all my avatars so I can reference the old LC fitting before it’s too late…
Note that this will revert whenever Roblox updates.
Also, if you’re unable to download ClientAppSettings.json
, then right-click and choose “Save link as”.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I was stressing so much because of this because I knew Roblox is not fixing it anytime soon and I have stuff to do on studio.
Sorry, but apparently I was missing two flags, causing some parts of the new LC algorithm to remain enabled.
I reuploaded ClientAppSettings.json
to fix this, so if you’re already using this then you’ll have to download it again.
I got lost on step 2, where is the versions folder? It takes me to a Roblox folder containing only the launcher and studio. There is no Versions folder for me…
It should take you to a folder that looks like this. This is the “specific version folder” where you put ClientSettings. RobloxStudioBeta.exe
should be in it.
I did not mention an exact folder location because the version-xxxxxx
folder name changes whenever Roblox updates.
Got it! At least now I have a 3D model of the old avatar, I have no idea what I need to do in blender so turning it into a bundle will be the hard part.
Because creating an entire body would be pretty difficult, right now I’m trying to investigate turning my clothes into a single LC item specifically tailored to my body’s cage meshes. Obviously this won’t fix any of my other outfits, but hopefully I can at least preserve the one I use 99% of the time.
Theoretically, this should be possible, since you can already do stuff like this:
I don’t actually know how to make LC though, so first I need to figure that out. And who knows if the new LC algorithm is just going to end up distorting my asset anyway.
This is ridiculously anti-consumer and I shouldn’t have to bother with this.
Okay… I have the update reverted on my end. No idea why it was, but I am glad it has been. Roblox has been very inconsistent with this update, and it’s making me so angry. Please keep it reverted to the old system. This new system is clearly not supported by the community
In the avatar editor; some of my avatars still show as the new (ew) system, but show as the old system in-game

This was not the case yesterday when the update was forced onto me
I’ve only made 2 layered clothing prototypes after watching a totally super rare youtube tutorial, all I remember is doing a lot of weight painting. Roblox keeps making unnecessary changes so don’t expect this to be the last update on layered clothing, that’s why it’d be foolish to make another LC asset seeing how Roblox now has this controlling grip on our assets and they can very easily screw us whenever they want. Once you create a bundle Roblox can’t mess around with the mesh like on layered clothing.
I’m still stuck with it, I think they’re done testing this time.
I was asked to further assist in this by providing assets of my friend’s avatar. I offered a better solution:
Thank you for giving this response. I was asked to provide rbxm files for my assets used. Hesitantly I did so, but in the hopes that it helps them resolve the issue by retaining the current algorithm. I don’t understand why they would break something that makes layered clothing actually usable.
As someone who cares about creativity; I want everyone’s avatars to remain intact and not ruined by this update. I’ve already given staff my avatar and they clearly altered it in the way I specifically mentioned I didn’t like.
Due to that, I do not feel inclined to help them any further except with providing them with what we ask for specifically. More than 40% of my avatars are ruined. I refuse to help ruin them further. I’d rather Roblox look into what the community wants for changes like this instead of dictating what our avatars should look like.
If VRChat did something like this; everyone would riot. That’s why I think thkngs like this should be treated the same way. Roblox isn’t your friend, so I am not scared to show how much I disapprove of this
When was this, today? Does that mean they’re actually reading our replies?
This is a post I wrote last night that turned out to be mostly just tired rambling, so I decided not to send it, but it feels more relevant now:

I still wonder if this was the case. After all, the official documentation for Puffiness used to incorrectly state that the valid range was 0 to 1 (instead of -1 to 1) for quite a while.
Imagine having all the clothes you’ve bought over the last 3 years suddenly become worthless because Roblox doesn’t know how their own API works.
And not only that, but I wonder if they’re even reading our replies at all. I really hate Roblox’s tendency to just go completely radio silent sometimes.
If they aren’t reading anything, then maybe they still don’t know (or they forgot) that negative Puffiness exists. If they are reading, then I guess they really don’t care and made a conscious decision to give backwards compatibility the finger.
But then again… I did send some of my avatars to an engineer, so they have to be aware of it.
It really feels like, when they were designing this update, they did not consider negative Puffiness at all, and were only reminded of it after they made this announcement… when the update was almost ready to ship. And then they just decided to ship it anyway.
This is the #1 thing I hate about Roblox avatars. At any point Roblox can just decide to push some change that ruins your avatar. And on way too many occasions, they have accidentally managed to break items that millions of people wear.
It was yesterday that they asked about it after I had already gotten the update. I find that their response now, after they started pushing out the update, is pretty ignorant to me. I’ve provided my avatar to ensure that it remains intact (which they specifically said), and I saw that it looked identical to this update that people didn’t support.
Exactly what I was confused about. Roblox already has a system that works well for what they are trying to achieve, but refuses to give us the tools to use it properly, unnecessarily restricting creative freedom.
It’s something I’ve grown to expect, even after they stated they wanted more transparency
100% agree. It’s why I’ve started to slow down on creating new avatars for the fun of it since there is no reason to continue creating them if Roblox just ruins them over time. It’s why I keep on asking for Roblox to stop altering our avatars for us. We know what we want for our avatars, so let us have it. If you want us to have the option to change it, give us the option and don’t force things we don’t want down our throats.
Roblox completely forgets that avatars are what identify us, and if that identification keeps changing forcibly, why bother trying to identify with your avatar? There is no point! It’s why I refuse to continue helping Roblox until they change course on the update to keep backwards compatibility or scrap the update altogether.
