I’ve seen a lot of controversy and complaints about how dynamic heads don’t currently support R6 and with the new heads policy changes that will need to be a feature.
Will R6 finally be getting support for dynamic heads in time for the conversion to dynamic head’s?
tbh, that would be their worst decision considering it’s the most popular avatar type on the platform but I have seen that Roblox has a lot of issues with R6 because of how it’s built internally.
I did see stuff about how dynamic heads used to be supported for R6 but was a bit buggy which I guess this new version will fix (or atleast hopefully)
no they’re removing it so they can eventually remove 2d clothing and replace everything with 3d things before forcing you to look like yourself in game
Today, Dynamic Heads have a static SpecialMesh representation that’s used in R6 that does not animate. With the transition, we’re updating the SpecialMesh to bake in the mood animation for these Dynamic Heads so that rather than appear with a neutral pose, the SpecialMesh version will have the expression that appears in the thumbnail when the user enters an R6 experience. These heads will not animate in R6 but instead show the updated SpecialMesh.
Surely at this point it would make more sense to just not force dynamic heads onto all users. There’s no technical reason to do so when the old system is just a decal instance layered on top of said SpecialMesh (or MeshPart for R15)?
So this at least confirms that R6 might stay around longer than expected, that’s a relief I suppose.
I do hope that the R6 avatar is eventually rewritten with updated code and textures rather than being outright removed, since a lot of people still want it to remain.
