Controversial game idea, what should I do?

I’ve been working on this game for a year now (3 devs each assigned their own role), never peaked a 10k visits (been below 6k since launch), which is disappointing considering how passionate I am to it, it even introduced me to the whole game development career thing, I work on it like four hours a day everyday, always reworking revamping it, but due to game’s idea, mainly the infecting mechanic, I never brought it up mainly due to paranoia and scared of backlash (dislike bombing, never taken serious or lack of attention), I’ve tried many steps, adding a censoring mechanic, which covers the infecting mechanic, with a big circle muting all sound effects and animations but keeping the cause of infections. But I don’t think it’s enough =(, my main concern, is how can I steer away the game from the whole infecting backlash but keep the mechanic to a minimum, especially character design.
I also added original sound effects and even actual zombie sound effects.
I know there are similar popular games but those have 10k DCU, but how?

what’s controversial about the infecting mechanic? without details it sounds like a normal zombie game feature

It’s a transfurring mechanic, it’s mainly frowned upon that’s why I made this whole thread. It’s like zombies, but humans can manually infect themselves from interacting with certain parts.

Oh, that idea is a bit sick.
However, this singular aspect is not the sole reason behind the unpopularity of your game. It is essential to come up with an original and enjoyable game as a whole. Moreover, it is not the only factor to consider; you should also have an extremely well-designed icon, a unique name, and attractive packaging (Thumbnails, Videos, Descriptions, Group Icon, etc.) along with a robust marketing strategy. Therefore, instead of being overly concerned about this one aspect, you should focus on all the areas that require attention.

When it comes to the concept, it’s important to avoid making it deliberately self-destructive in order to become infected. Instead, consider creating a few zones or special objects that are supposed to be feared due to their toxicity, where players can enter and become zombies. However, it shouldn’t be too simple to access these areas - make them either far away or expensive to reach.

You can make games like simulator or roleplay that will be popular today.

eg bloxburg as an example of roleplay, and jailbreak and mad city as an example of simulator
