Could I get some feedback on how I can increase the retention on my game?

Hello everyone!

I have been trying to update my game to work on increasing the D1 and D7 retention, but it doesn’t seem to be working very well.

Could anyone try the game and see if they can figure out why? I’ve been at this for months and I can’t figure it out.

Thank you!

Some notes about your game:

  • Stuttering in the loading gui
  • Possibly an unpopular opinion here: The daily reward and starter pack prompt did not entice me. My immediate thoughts were “Why should I care about this?”
  • The tutorial arrow is nice but using an outline seems odd. I think it would be more natural with an illuminated blue and no black outline.
  • The word efficiency in the tutorial is already good, but I think it can be improved. This will require going over every sentence to look for shorter, more concise alternatives.
  • Gameplay would be better if fire was automatic. Also consider an idle mode or feature. Clicking so many times feels like a chore in this context.

Although I’m not a professional game designer (yet) I do a have a few notes, just take them with a grain of salt. Also I’m sorry If I mention features your game already has, I was only able to play for half an hour before my internet gave out.

  • Redo the combat system

With the game you have so far it feels more like a clicky grinding simulator than it does an actual game. In my opinion, I think you should do away with the auto-lock system and re-design your shooting system. It would make a world of differences if the player actually had to aim for themselves, rather than just clicking in the enemies general direction. I think you should also add automatic weapons so I don’t develop Carpal tunnel syndrome while trying to fight. You can balance this by adding different fire rates on different weapons, along with other different attributes. Also consider adding classes of weapons, to provide more variety.

  • Add more social aspects

A lot of the charm of Roblox comes from being able to play with your friends, so adding more social aspects to your game could be highly beneficial. For example: invest in a PvP system, make players compete against each-other for different rewards. Maybe add guilds, or party’s etc… Get creative! Just add more incentive for people to play with each-other, rather than grinding on their own.

  • Make the Gui a little simpler

Although I love the charm and witty dialogue your game has, you should always assume (especially if your game is aimed towards a younger demographic) that your players are going to skip through all the dialogue with-out paying attention. Consider adding your quests on a header, so the player can be reminded of their task easily. Also consider adding some simple signs directing the player to shoot the blots. You should try to design your Gui so a complete idiot could still make sense of it while the more involved players can benefit from the extra dialogue. Also cleaning up your Gui’s a bit makes the game feel a little less cluttered a makes it feel more put together.

All in all it’s a very well made game with many positive attributes; my favorite being the characters. My main point of criticism however, is to make the game feel less grindy and more, well, fun! Again, I’m not a professional game designer so take what I said with a grain of salt, but that’s just my two cents.

It seems like you don’t have that much stuff for the user to unlock, compared to other simulators they have hundreds - thousands of items for the player to unlock. Do any of the other areas have any additional guns or backpacks? Also, I don’t get the point of having a daily rotating shops for some of items, this would be useful if you were selling cosmetics, but persons who play simulators just want to unlock the best item not wait daily, so maybe consider having unique pets in every area.
