Roblox Support has shown a consistent issue in the handling of both DMCA removals and DMCA Counter notices, often taking several days to respond or, in some cases, failing to respond altogether. This is a critical problem because these notices are inherently time-sensitive. Under the DMCA, Roblox is legally obligated to process these requests back to the claimant within a reasonable timeframe.
The current delays leave creators without updates while their content remains unavailable, or while copies flood the market and they are unable to take action against them, directly harming their revenue, visibility, and reputation. This failure also undermines the fairness of the DMCA process, as abusive or false takedowns go unchallenged when Roblox does not act. Furthermore, continued inaction exposes Roblox itself to legal risk for not meeting its obligations under copyright law.
It is essential that Roblox establish a clear and reliable system to ensure DMCA notices are acknowledged, processed, and forwarded expeditiously, with transparent communication provided to affected users.
(Example of this problem: DMCA sent from my account 3 days ago has seen no reply; Friends of mine are experiencing the same delay/have been waiting for more than a week.)
Expected behavior
Expected Behavior:
DMCA removals and Counter notices should be acknowledged and forwarded to the claimant quickly. Staff and resources should be pushed towards this side of the platform, users shouldn’t experience an extreme delay in a response for these types of requests.
This is not a bug. If we exclude weekends (September 20-21, 2025, are not business days), it’s been less than 2 business days since the DMCA counter notice was submitted. You might need to wait a bit longer for the designated agents to respond, as they likely have a lot of requests to review, so delays are expected.
I was hit with a false DMCA about a week ago. No big issue, I’ve been hit with fraudulent DMCAs from users seeking to terminate my account several times before, I just send a counter notice and that’s it.
However, for the past 7 days my counter notice has received no response whatsoever. They usually take a few hours to 2 days but this is way too long for it to be normal. Could anyone possibly take a look?
If I was the only person experiencing this issue while others haven’t been while submitting counter/DMCA removals on weekdays, I wouldn’t have reported it. But as you can see in my report, multiple of my colleagues are having the same issue, at some point even reaching weeks without a response. Not only that, but usually these types of notices take a few hours for a reply at best… taking days for these requests is still not ideal.
If there’s proof needed of this I can also provide the dates at which they sent either type of notice to staff in PMs, this is a shared issue and not a coincidence with how agents respond.
no youre not alone , even im getting responses for my dmca emails after a month of emails sent , atm its gonna be a month i sent an email to take down assets stolen from me and its going to be a month , theyre being so late its insane while the people who steal my clothing assets are making robux due to their incompetence of removing my assets off their groups , so frustrating
It’s been a month since I’ve submitted my counter-notice. They are still in the process of reviewing it.
Counter-notices cannot be stalled for that long and must be reviewed and replied to in a timely manner.
I’ve also complained with an out of court option (EU) and today I’ve received the news that my complaint was dismissed by Roblox and my strike will stay.
Guess people who got banned unfairly will stay banned and those who have 2 strikes will have 2 strikes still.
I did finally get a response just this morning (over 14 days later). They’re in process of reviewing it now and I have to wait the 10-14 business days.
For my previous one 2 months ago, it took about 30days before they finally restored the asset (more than 21 business days)
I don’t know why but their DMCA department is having severe delays currently
Probably due to the fact that every developer who had made a fedora or a valkyrie helmet has submitted a counter-notice in hopes of getting the content restored, so they have over thousands complaints.
Geniunely hate being a developer on this platform. Feels like I have no rights at all. I can do fifteen years of hard work, earning good money and by now I’d have a whole market built from zero, even be a top UGC seller.
But no, I can be sucked into a black hole one day, by a DMCA strike from an asset I uploaded ten years ago with no chance of having a second chance, even though the infringer policy should be for people who maliciously act on the platform.
I’m going to need therapy if that happens to me, and it probably will.
Roblox is terrible with handling anything related to DMCA. I’ve had notices take a month to process.
They claim Roblox “follows the processes established by the DMCA”, but then start to demand evidence far beyond what the DMCA actually requires.
For example, they request screenshots and links to the original content and refuse to action notices where this is not done. While I recognise the issue of false notices, links to the original content and screenshots are not legally required (only sufficient identification such as a description is needed); if they’re following the processes within the DMCA, they should remove the content immediately.
Even when you do provide clear evidence and links to the original work, on multiple occasions they have claimed that they cannot identify the infringing content.
I’ve heard of a case where they requested screenshots of a SONG in an infringing game. When you try to explain something to them or ask further questions, they just send canned responses (which wouldn’t be an issue if they followed the DMCA properly).
And here’s what a professional company said regarding this: “In our experience, Roblox is in a similar place to X (formerly Twitter) in that it’s going to take a lawsuit to force them to do better with the DMCA.”
@TrainsRSwag We couldn’t locate any recent copyright reports from you/the email address that’s tied to your user account. Could you please write to copyright_agent@roblox.com regarding this issue? Thanks!
Hey, any reason why theres been so response from your dmca agents team in a while now? or why are they so slow, it would be more helpful if the agents went on a holiday and we could be notified an email about potential delay but despite roblox’s horrible prrotection of original creators theres so many stolen assets i need to take down from my group owner account email , yet no response , stealers are profiting off from the ways roblox shamelessly allows them to steal and be on the platform , original creators waste their time emailing dmca takedowns like its a punishment for us to even be owners of these assets , and guess what? dmca agents arent even bothering to respond . Great one roblox
Exactly this. A “DMCA” department is not available to anyone on this platform with the exception of large-scale companies with big money involved. They know that most people submitting even valid DMCA notices will not be capable of filing suit against Roblox for being liable, so they’ll just disregard any notice even if it makes them now liable (Which it absolutely does legally).
And yes, they do constantly act as meditators, ask for screenshots and evidence of “similarities” & give an automated response about how said content “is not similar enough”, which is absolutely not how the DMCA process works by law.
Also the reason you have them making absurd requests like asking for screenshots of a “song” is because they’ve outsourced the so called “copyright” department to a non US country, and have them respond with automatic prompts. They’ve been using the exact same prompts for literal years now.
If you are on the other hand, a large organization, no evidence or images are required, nor will you receive any automatic prompts, they will act immediately in taking down the content per DMCA.
