Creating an RTS game (and trying to keep my sanity) [Devlog #1]

Hello Everyone!

Just started creating this RTS type game a few days back and I just wanted to share it with you guys to hopefully get some constructive critism and the likes. All feedback would be greatly appreciated! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

So, here’s what I added for the past 6 days or so

  1. Instead of individual units, I made it so that it’s more based around a squad of 3-5 units. Bascially like Noobs in Combat | The Official Roblox Website and other games like it

  2. When units are attacking the enemy they’ll be locked in combat meaning that they won’t be able to move unless they flee. Also, about fleeing..

  3. I added morale! Now what is morale? When your squad loses a unit your morale will start to dwindle and at one point will force a squad to flee!

  4. Abilities: I thought of adding abilities to certain units, as you can see in the video I provided my troops have a grenade ability. Although it is a passive ability.

  5. Finally, I added buying units from the barracks and also a training time.

Would you play this game? Let me know if you think there should be anything else to add! For now, I have my sights on adding a PvP mode where you can challenge your friends! Alright that’s all, thanks for reading. Bye!

Would you play it or not?

  • YES!

I wouldn’t play it myself but I can appreciate a good game

Well, unfortunately I’m using AI :folded_hands: (don’t burn me) as I still don’t possess the abilities to code more complex things other than “Hello World”

But if it makes it any better I’m trying to understand the codes that are given to me so that I’m still learning along the way

I will burn you. AI is a great tool, BUT if you don’t have the skill to read what AI is giving you, then you’re going to end up with a lot of overcomplicated code.

To use AI efficiently you must first become adept in the field you’re using AI in.

Your not learning as efficiently. Compare it to when you just listen to your teacher/lecturer - you don’t learn much. BUT when you write down notes AND listen to the teacher, you soak up the information AND remember it. Note taking, or in this instance writing the code yourself, is not just something to fall back on BUT a much more efficient method of remembering and understanding the concept itself. A lot of the time you won’t even read the notes you wrote; the act of writing them solidified the concepts in your brain.

I would suggest you indulge in the basics first and then you can fully utilize AI to the best of its AND your ability

Alright, thank you man will do :+1:

Sorry if this genuinely dissapointed you, I’ll listen to yout advice and try my best to improve!

Hardly disappoints me; it’s great that you’re already experimenting with AI tools. It’s truly good to see; however, I still think it’s important AND more efficient to understand what’s actually going on first.

This isn’t to slow you down; it’s to improve your ability to use AI.

Thanks man for the feedback, I’ll take it into account. Don’t worry, hopefully it won’t slow me down but make me a lot better at scripting! And again, thank you very much :+1:
