Custom Health Controllers. Yay or nay?

Are you guys using a custom health system instead of the default .Humanoid.Health?

If so, what benefits have you noticed?

No really any benefits over that.
There is a problem currently on how from client side exploiters may trigger death by setting health to 0 and this is the only downside of regular Humanoid health.

Unless you are writing everything completelly from scratch without use of humanoids entirely you are going to waste own time for nothing.
So answer is: No, not worth it really.

I’d say custom health is only useful if the health system you want deviates from the standard health system (you loose hp until you die). If your health is supposed to work different from that then you should probably make your own health script

Depends.

For damaging player, most of the time you are gonna be calling system rather than applying damage dirrectly anyway.
You can make it so that it actually sets health to 1e-9 or something.

Yes for damaging them but i meant a scenario where your health isnt displayed by the damage you take but instead by some other type of system

So you mean using smth like “DisplayHealth” attribute like system and humanoid health as fallback?
Unless your game needs for some reason to lie about your health then sure ig.
Althrough if your game uses rounding for health display something like 0.000001 should work aswell.

It usually isn’t worth making a custom health controller, since you’d have to constantly call and manage it, which can get complicated quickly. Unless you have a strong reason or a solid plan for implementing one, I’d recommend sticking with .Humanoid.Health, since it’s reliable and built-in.
