Here are all of Dave’s claims he has about De Pride Isle Sanatorium.
The Islands
The island chain is made up of 7 different islands, 4 of them are uninhabited. The largest and tallest island has the sanatorium at the southwestern end, and the village at the northeastern end. The island chain used to be one whole island, until a nuclear bomb hit the island in 1985.
Pride Melons
The Pride Melons were originally pears, mutated into a melon. They are still shaped as a pear and still have the light green color, the color you would see on pears, except they have a bump at the top. The taste of the Pride Melons are different from normal pears.
The Sanatorium
The sanatorium was re-built in 1986 after the nuclear bomb hit the island and completely destroyed the original one. The original Sanatorium did not have isolation rooms, they instead would lock misbehaving people in the bathroom. Now the Sanatorium has three isolation cells, one for misbehaving “patients”, and the other two for spiders. The new Sanatorium is located on the highest point of the island chain, whereas before, they had it in the center of the island where it was surrounded by hills and cliffs. The sanatorium took a direct hit from the nuclear bomb, killing everyone in the sanatorium instantly.
Radiation
Because of the nuclear bomb, the island chain is highly radioactive. All the nurses and patients have radiation poisoning when they step foot on the island. The blurs and spiders are all effects from the radiation at the island.
The Patients
The patients are human beings with radiation poisoning. They either wanted to come here or were kidnapped by a nurse when no one else was watching. Half of the people like it there, while the other want to flee the island. Their left arm starts to shake after the 2nd blur, their head starts to twitch after the 4th blur, and they will turn into a spider at night after the 6th blur.
Spiders
The spiders are mutated humans that have been on the island for so long that the radiation effects have become extreme. They are able to hunt down other humans, including the nurses. Before the nuclear bomb hit the island, there was an estimated 30,000 spiders on the island, most of which were colored completely black. The spider population went down from 30,000 in 1984 to only 120 in 1985. Before 2002, the sisters would also turn into spiders.
The Nurses
The nurses are humans that run the sanatorium. They originally were patients, until they applied as a nurse and got selected. They are the only people that cannot turn into spiders. This is due to a special mix that they developed in 2002. This special mix contains 90% hydrogen, 9% calcium, 0.9% nitrogen, 0.09% helium, and 0.01% other compounds. They drink it everyday secretly so no one notices it. The majority of the nurses are female, while there are some nurses that are male. The nurses that abuse their power are thrown off the cliff by the other nurses. They usually lie to patients as well about certain things, like spiders. Valindra wants her nurses to lie to people.
Holy Water
The holy water is one of the most dangerous things to consume. It contains 50% uranium, 49% water, 0.8% Plutonium, 0.2% other compounds. Drinking it can be fine for the first 50 days. After 50 days however, you can start to see serious side effects, including fever, shortness of breath, vomiting, and death. The sisters say the holy water package comes from the heavens, although that is not true. It is actually dropped from a stolen historic WW2 bomber from the U.S. army. It drops at 11:55 AM around 10,000 feet in the air. It then lands at the sanatorium at 12:00 PM. After everyone heads to the lecture hall, the nurses give the patients the holy water. Some people drink it, while others refuse to do so.
Meals
The meals sound that the nurses provide are different from the meals you typically eat. They arrive from airship once a month and are stored for future uses. The most toxic meal the patients get are jellyfish. The jellyfish do not get properly cooked and still have their poison. Although not as toxic as holy water, it has a 20% mortality rate for all ages. Originally they served sea urchins when people are misbehaving. Now they serve mice to people that misbehave.
