Defend against hat stealing

  1. What do you want to achieve?
    I want to prevent players from stealing limited hats.

  2. What is the issue?
    The limited hat accessory is on a mannequin’s head on
    display in my store. Players phase into the mannequin’s body and once aligned move upward and lift the hat off the mannequin. The player then takes off with the hat. The hat is already anchored.

  3. What solutions have you thought of so far?
    Not sure. I do not understand how this theft works, so unable to create a solution.

How can I defend against this and how is the player achieving this maneuver?

If the hat is parented under workspace, simply touching the hat will equip it to your avatar.

If the hat is however, under a model with a Humanoid (and appropriate body part/setup) then touching it won’t cause it to be “stolen” by players.

Alternatively, if you just use the hat mesh and not the accessory instance, players will be unable to take it.

Turning CanCollide off in the handle should work.
