For a long time now I have been noticing a lack in descriptive titles in the #help-and-feedback category especially #help-and-feedback:scripting-support. I have seen many tiles simply saying things like Why isn’t this script working or Help with this script. Titles should be much more descriptive about the problem your having such as Player.Name is returning value nil.
I find that not only is it requested by Roblox to have descriptive titles but I notice that people might not open these questions as they don’t know if they can answer the question. But say if you had a descriptive title people reading the title would notice that the question is about something they know a lot about and will then click on it to see if they can answer it.
I currently can’t think of any way that we could check how descriptive a tile before posting however I would love to hear what you guys think about title deficiencies, if you agree or not.
While I do think that having short titles can be good, they should also be descriptive. The word “help” gets overused in…help and feedback categories, nullifying all meaning of putting it in the title. It gets way too repetitive and when you try to search for a certain topic, the results are just flooded with what we have above. I especially don’t like the ones with the brackets as they make the title harder to read in one go.
With that being said, don’t make your titles so long as it would be too wordy and the exact point has a hard time of being conveyed. For example, “Why is player.Character nil even though I waited for the character to load using player.CharacterAdded:Wait()” can be shortened to “player.Character always returns nil despite waiting for it to load”.
Now, most people who post there are ones that don’t use the Forum the way they’re supposed to nor the ones to read the category guidelines. Such a PSA in Forum Feedback is almost always overlooked by them, so while we discuss the problem here, it won’t actually be solved.
Since Roblox censors so much on the site, why can’t there be a few titles that trigger some sort of automatic answer that states “Titles that do not describe an issue properly will not be posted”
Titles here have a minimum limit of 15 characters. Why not increase that?
The Scripting Helpers website (Roblox Q%A website, based on Stack Overflow) also has a filter. There doesn’t seem to be a filter here at all, only a minimum character requirement.
