Degraded streaming performance

Over the past few days, with no changes to the game, we have experienced severely degraded streaming performance which has resulted to clients only getting streamed the minimum radius, and not attempting to hit the target radius when the device is capable. This is effecting users for their whole play session which is negatively effecting playtime or it is happening intermittent throughout their session. This is happening across all device types (mobile, console, desktop) with varying device specifications.

This is being experienced on Croydon: London Bus Simulator

There is also another bug report open regarding this game here

Are there any steps to reproduce the issue? I joined the experience and saw streaming to target radius when I was just walking around. Does it require any specific actions?

When do you think the issue started occurring?

We started seeing player reports yesterday about 16:00 UTC
We’ve mostly observed it in servers in the higher player counts but reports from players also indicate it’s occurring in smaller servers.

In terms of steps to reproduce, it is seemingly random. The two attached videos are from the same server, just two hours apart - but other users were indicating they still only have the minimum radius.

We have minimum 15 screenshots and videos from user reports we are able to share (without streaming debug ui) but we are struggling to find any link between these as it’s from newly opened servers to servers that have been open for hours.

As mentioned previously no game updates occurred during this time period.

We do utilise reserved servers that hosts 100-200 players during the day which are generally more vocal about issues - but users have reported them in normal servers too.

I will note that based on comments, the issue seems to happen more commonly during the games “peak” time. Which is 15:00UTC - 20:00UTC. We are currently reaching out to users to try take note of when they observe when it happens tomorrow.

@ReduxGB Thanks for reaching out!
Earlier today, we reverted a streaming-related change that may be connected to this issue. Could you please check whether the problem still occurs on new servers? Since the change is static, existing servers will only pick up the reverted version until they restart.

Hiya, I’m receiving reports this is becoming an issue again what we are currently assuming are new servers*. From what was observed, issues subsided overnight and resurfaced around about this time.

Streaming only appearing to try to get close to the target if the user stays still for long enough. This is within a reserved server via the simulation server feature - though we are not currently available to investigate ourselves and are basing it off reports from players and moderators at this time.

*based on historical data where reserved servers generally empty out overnight for 2-3 hours

@ReduxGB Thanks for getting back to us! In case you’re using Improved mode, could you try to switch to Default/Legacy mode for ModelStreamingBehavior setting and see if the issue would get resolved? Thanks!

Hiya @dear_gee, we’ve restarted the majority of the servers a few hours ago that had the most user reports and have seen no further reports since.

We are still monitoring at this stage just to validate this, but seemingly some servers may not have been shutdown overnight causing them to stay alive and resurface - we had no way to check server age so it was sort of a guessing game.

It might be safe to mark this as resolved.

I’ve been having this issue today, and it seems to be triggered by the character CFrame changing?
Currently been playing Welcome To Bloxburg, and have had this happen quite often. With it happening almost always after I teleport somewhere, and requires me to rejoin to fix the issue.
