Delete all accounts that haven't been active for 10+ years

I cannot name a single reason why would this not be useful, not like the original owners are gonna recover the account anyways. (either forgot about its existence, quit or made a new account)

why is this beneficial:

  1. will stop MOST account blackmarket/pg/etc
  2. more people would have a username of their choice
  3. would save roblox a lot of data

I’d think the answer to the blackmarket would be more security, not deleting old accounts.
People could always return, and I find preservation innately important.

If I was in that 10+ inactive account situation, it’d be annoying to me if I came back to my childhood Roblox account only to find my account deleted. At least if I just forgot the password, it’d kinda be my own fault.

Roblox’s answer to this was display names. I believe most UI is based on that now in games and throughout the site.

I too find this a weak point. Maybe it would save data, but if those get deleted, you know people would make accounts to snipe those names. Maybe in mass with AI, I don’t think it’d be long before what was deleted would be back again in the same amount, if not more “data.”

This is also in the forum feature request; I assume it was meant to be for the platform-wide (like website feature request).

You could flag it for removal, but moderation here usually doesn’t recognize you’re trying to take down your own post.

You could just leave it up :person_shrugging:

i was trying to ask “why 10 years and not 9 or 11?”

good, what would you do if the random kid is still active or the name was taken last year?

  1. will not stop black market.
  2. you can already set a name of your choice.
  3. roblox has infinite data storage capacity.

there is still some good usernames (+id patterns) that have been made in last 10 years so it will not stop those “”“people”“” at all

will never happen and it shouldnt
imagine fandom wiki page about developer that quit over 10 years ago and then his account gets deleted and now you have random dude taking his user thus impersonating him
also how that would work with previously uploaded assets/places???

watermark
even if this somehow relates to devforum and not main site its still on the same level of absurdness and should not be implemented at all

Account deletion does not free up a username as that username will still be tied to the deleted account unless it was erased. I think you should’ve posted a feature request to ask for users to be able to request a username taken by an inactive account, though this process should be manual and they should have criteria such as the username needing to be unique.

Star creators can already do this, but I am not sure how this would work for regular users as most star creators have already abused this feature by claiming generic usernames like “Mud” and “Nick” which were already being used by active accounts, at least Roblox reverted the changes instead of letting them keep the names. I think this could work if the process was manual and had strict requirements like a 10,000 robux fee, requiring plus and the request being human approved.

Celebrities that did some sort of deal with Roblox were given their username so they do have a system for this only reserved for certain people.

Trust me, Roblox has never been the type of company to clear old storage unless required by law. All old content and discontinued features including forums, comments under assets, group walls, blog posts from 2007, group shouts from 2013, group clans, game leaderboards, audit logs, transactions, analytics, old icons/thumbnails for groups/badges/game passes/developer products/games/plugins, messages, datastore history, model/game version history, deleted messages, chat messages from that twisted murderer server in 2014 where you insulted someone, moderation actions, terminated users, etc (I can’t think of more examples) still exist on their servers somewhere and are just hidden/anonymized. I know people who waste terabytes of Roblox’s cdn for personal storage just because it lets them lol

you can use display names for that

well thats quite unstoppable unless someone locks the account

this is obviously satire and all ive writen in this msg is satire
i contribute nothing to humanity

I’m quite curious how this would work, if the account is up for sale on the blackmarket or some other site wouldn’t that mean someone has logged into the account recently?

I doubt anyone is going to create an account wait 10 years do not log in for that entire duration even after they posted an account do not log in having the first-person showing activity being the person who bought it. I could be wording it wrong but that’s the way I view it.

Even if you look for “sudden activity” on old accounts how do you know its someone who bought the account or just an old player returning for nostalgia.

There’s probably a recognizable pattern that these types of scenarios would follow. Like for example, is an old player returning for nostalgia gonna suddenly try changing their email and/or password within a week or two of returning to the platform?

i don’t fully agree with this and i think it needs changes
if it (the account) hasn’t been available for 12+ years, has little to no items (must have spent atleast something on roblox before in the last 12 years), or is terminated, it should be passed over and freed up
