Deleting things that are not just version-<hash> and whatever was brought by the Roblox Installer?

Description

I guess the installer received an upgrade which had good intentions.

%localappdata%/Roblox/Versions/ now removes all folders and keeps only your installed and used Roblox Versions… This is cool, but…

Instead of just version-<hash>, it removes all folders inside of that path, all of a sudden.

There are installers for other Software. Their uninstallers only remove the things that were installed, and keeps the user’s files… Now, in Roblox’s case, they didn’t do that.

So note, if you put something in that folder, and this did not happen at the moment. I’d suggest to move it out of that folder… :)

Re-production Steps

  • Trigger the installer :person_shrugging:
  • It will do a clean-up service, unless it’s some AB Test.

Expected Result

That it just removes version-<hash> and, targeted file names, e.g. these .exe

You need to know that, this hasn’t been done for a while now. And once it gets finally done, it gets done in this aggressive way, where it deletes everything inside of it.

Actual Result

Things the user placed in there also go away, even if they were not named version-<hash> or when not named in the same as anything that the Roblox Installer brings.

Hi, thank you for the report. Yes, this was a new feature to clean up old versions, but now it is disabled. We will address the issue with your suggestion.

Thanks.

Also, does anyone have to worry about things being directly under %localappdata%/Roblox or not, in the future?

Generally, I would advise against placing any personal files under %localappdata%/Roblox since they may be subjected to unannounced changes or experiments.
