Display name randomly Reset. Verification badges lost

I’m writing this post to inform others about an issue I recently experienced involving Display Names and Verified checkmarks.

If you share the same Display Name as another user who also has a Verified Badge, Roblox will automatically reset your Display Name back to your original username. This process also removes the verification badge from both users, and it happens without any warning.

Here’s what happened in my case:
About a month ago, my group’s holder was verified. We happen to share the same display name. On October 3rd, during a new verification wave. I was verified as well. However, upon logging in this morning, both of our Display names were reset, and we both lost our verification badges.

I’ve already contacted Roblox Support and am currently waiting for a response. However, I believe there should be clear guidance in the verification requirements stating that having the same Display Name as another verified user is not allowed.

Expected behavior

If everything were working correctly, I would expect verified users with identical display names to keep their verification badges and not have their display names reset automatically. Instead, Roblox should either allow verified users to retain their badges or display a clear warning that explains how duplicate display names may cause verification conflicts.

There should be a grace period that gives verified users time to change their display names before any automatic reset or badge removal occurs. This would prevent confusion and ensure creators have a fair opportunity to make adjustments without losing verification status.

All you’d probably have to do is just wait until the next wave to get it back. And yeah, by design, users can’t share the same display name as a verified / star creator’s actual username, as to help protect against impersonation, which is evident if you go to change your display name to match that of a verified user’s real username, which you’ll be met with an error when attempted. Although, sharing display names shouldn’t be a problem so long as the display name isn’t the actual username of someone else who’s verified.

But It appears that this shouldn’t have been the case for you here, because you seemingly didn’t fall into that category since both of your accounts that lost the badge from what I’m seeing, used the same display name yes, but your display name on both of them wasn’t the same as any of their usernames. Your account Iyrids uses an i instead of an L, but both of your accounts had an L in their display names right?

As to why you lost the badges, there could be more at play here. If you changed any account information such as email, 2-step authentication, or even password I believe? Then that would also be a way that the badges would be automatically removed, but then again, you’re claiming that your display names on both accounts got reset back to their respective usernames, which shouldn’t have happened since none of them should’ve been problematic due to what I already explained earlier. Not sure what else could’ve caused this, your best bet is waiting on the next wave to get it back, because support is probably not going to assist you with this matter even if something weird did happen. The verification system is automatically handled for platform creators such as developers and UGC creators, it’s usually only manually handled for other types of notable people such as popular brands and celebrities, since they don’t have to meet any on-platform requirements.

Also, here’s a few examples of other verified users that I could find that are sharing the same display names with no issue, further proving that using the same display name itself doesn’t matter unless it’s the same as another verified user’s actual username:

That’s very interesting! I have not changed my display name or settings since I received the badges. It’s odd that we both lost the badges at the same time.

Another verification wave is about to happen, and I’ve received no input on the Roblox Support end. I still qualify but it’s ashame to have waited this long with no response. I have emailed support to reinstate the badge on my account but I’m stuck in the queue.

Update: As of today, the badge bug should be fixed. I am still waiting for a response regarding my situation, but I am hopeful I will get my badge reinstated soon! I still qualify for verification, and I’ve been very vocal about this situation.
