If appealing a Display Name or Username via the Safety Dashboard or Violations & Appeals page in any account state (moderated or unmoderated), the API will fail to send the appeal, resulting in possible false moderation staying on history, affecting account status. This is very dangerous as mass reports can terminate a user for an innocent username, while they can’t do anything about it. Please see the below redacted images for an example of this:
To show the example of both account states being unable to do it, my account with user ID 1024363 has a warning, and my account with user ID 11735336352 has no current moderation action.
Unredacted Violation IDs and HTTP request/responses have been provided in private staff-only to help identify the root cause.
Expected behavior
The display name/username should be able to be appealed and restored if found that it is a moderation mistake
