Docs Update: Enhanced Search & Navigation

Hi Creators,

We’re excited to highlight some recent, significant updates to our documentation site designed to help you find the information you need more quickly and efficiently. These changes, rolled out over the past few months, are a direct result of your valuable feedback. Our goal is to make navigating our resources as intuitive as possible, so you can spend more time building.

Enhanced Search Capabilities

We’ve focused on refining the docs site search functionality to ensure you can pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for with ease. We heard your ask about finding API reference pages when searching for their exact or near-exact name, and we’ve made adjustments to the search result ranking that should make these critical resources easier to find.

There’s more content available in search, as it can now find Cloud v2 APIs, feature announcements, and Staff articles in the Forum, and videos from our growing catalog on the Roblox Learn channel.

We’ve also reintroduced result type filters, allowing you to narrow down your search results by format. Whether you’re looking for guides, references, or announcements, these filters will help you get to the relevant content faster.

Improved Engine API Reference Navigation

Navigating the Engine API Reference is now more streamlined than ever. The left-hand sidebar can now be filtered by simply typing into the input box at the top, providing quick navigation to specific classes or functions.

To help you better understand the relationships between different components, the left-hand sidebar now also displays the class inheritance hierarchy. This visual representation makes it easier to visualize relationships and find related pages, saving you time and effort when exploring APIs.

Reorganized Information Architecture

To make browsing for relevant guides and information more intuitive, we’ve reorganized our documentation into three main sections: Create, Scale, and Monetize. This new structure is designed to align with your journey as creators, helping you quickly find the information relevant to your current goals, whether you’re just starting out, optimizing for growth, or exploring monetization strategies.

What’s Next

We’re continuously working to improve our documentation and your overall experience. In the future, you can expect further refinements to our search capabilities, more interactive elements within our API references, and adjustments to our landing page.

Our vision is to provide a documentation site that continues to unblock and inspire you to create anything you can imagine. Please share any feedback with us below!

Thank you.

It’d be cool to add each class icon next to their names

I always love to see documentation improvements.

I’d also like to see some of the other changes that I mentioned here:

This is cool and all, but would be nice if the new studio explorer allowed us to ctrl+shift click to mass select like we used to be able to…

So then why don’t you report all the bugs you are experiencing to them instead of trying to demand they bring back the old UI? Updated versions of things would never be improved if they just reverted it at the first sighting of bugs.

Excellent Update, I consume a lot of documentation on a daily basis and this update has made the learning and implementation process easier for me. I hope it has solved the problem that when searching for an example property of the Humanoid if you were reading the Health example it suddenly returned you to the beginning, that is, Humanoid but Incredible Update :heart_eyes::heart:

and sometimes what you want to search for doesn’t even appear. Example For Loop. need to search for loop and read until you find the loop you need

This is a joke of an update. I just discovered this and I had to do <CTRL>-F in my browser to search the page to find what I was looking for. I like how the object inheritance hierarchy is shown, but that does not override the usability. Did you guys even do a usability study to garner feedback to even see what people’s reaction would be?

In essence, this is a bad update that made finding things on the documentation much harder and it was not needed. If you wanted to show the object hierarchy, make it a separate section, but bring back the alphabetical listing. It was much easier to find things.

Two thumbs down, 0/5 stars.

Options should be given, I don’t wanna use new ones until they are bug free.

The new studio explorer does allow us to mass select, I have done it countless times.

P.S Just hold down shift rather than ctrl + shift.

This is my first every comment btw
