Hey I need to know if theres anybody else that experience this thing when you get stuff done you dont think about other stuff that might get added so when you try to add further stuff to that thing its not compatible with updates so you feel the need of starting over?
I really cannot think about future of the things I write and they look complicated
How many times do I have to start from 0 to actually write codes that are properly arranged?
I’ve experienced this many times. It’s difficult because you want to generalize your code as much as possible, but doing too much would take way too long. Finding the perfect balance takes time.
You generally want to code with as little constants as possible to make it compatible for various cases, but again, doing too much will prevent you from ever releasing your game.
Starting from scratch is an instinct to tell you that what your doing may not be right, In terms of performance, usability and many other reasons, but that becomes a problem once you struggle and throw it away.
To be honest, if you are having problems writing re-irritable code, Its maybe time you start focusing on Refactoring your code and structuring your projects more “professionally”.
Maybe these may help you?
A guide, just do a run through what refactoring is and its patterns.
Yes, this has for sure happened to me. In fact, its happening to me right now. I coded a system, but now with so many errors the only way to fix them is to restart and set everything up differently.
So, yeah this is a perfectly normal feeling and if you need to do it, its completely normal to rewrite a script. Or feel like you couldve organized better.
My suggestion for you right now, is to restart from scratch and code the main system and mechanics of the game, but make sure its a system compatible with any future plans AND is open to have additions. So, dont make a system thats overly dependent on one thing, make sure it has the capability to add more things later on.
I hope my advice helped you, even if just a little bit
