Hi! I’m DreadNautical, a new member to the forum (as of January 2019).
I’ve been building on ROBLOX for about 5 years, and am part of various successful teams such as Shiguto, Ressurection Studios, and Clan Community Studios.
I frequently do commissions for the community as well, and am the lead builder and organizer for my main project, the Dreaded Seas.
Showcases:
I like to organize all of my relevant showcases through the use of this game, which serves as a storage place for many models I’ve made, and also has portals to most of those showcases. As of 7/29/19, it’s slightly outdated. In the future I will be updating it with new showcases. If you would like a link to any showcase shown below, please ask me on discord!
I currently have this detailed map and nothing to do with it. If you are interested in buying it, or any other maps on this post for that matter, please add me on discord at DreadNautical#7764
The map is meant to function as both detailed while at the same time maintaining a realistic part count to avoid excessive lag, as the servers were intended to support large numbers of people at once, detailing moving vehicles, and firefights.
Although, when you say ‘at first glance’ it kind of gives me the impression that you barely walked through the map.
Thank you. I’ve been building on here for quite some time. If you aren’t satisfied with your own builds, I’m sure you can improve if you put some time into it!
I do appreciate your feedback, although I believe that your time would be best spent improving your own skill, or perhaps providing actual advice rather than simply insisting that someone’s builds are ‘rushed’. You seem to be overlooking the purpose the map is to fill, as I said: The map is meant to function as both detailed while at the same time maintaining a realistic part count to avoid excessive lag.
In other words, it is not meant to as an explorable game rather than one that is made on a 20 x 20 baseplate with thousands of parts, providing a detailed approach. Being capable of building things on a large scale and making them look nice is equally as important as being good at building small objects of high detail- especially on a platform like ROBLOX, where a majority of the users can’t even process games of such detail on their computers.
That said, I’m not really sure what you expected to hear as a reply from that first comment. Additionally, many of the buildings in the militarized zone were done to a reasonable extent of close up detail. If you were simply trying to insist that I am incapable of such high detail builds, I would direct you to my other showcases.
Again, I am grateful for your feedback, I hope you understand that sometimes designing maps with this intention is common, and that not all builds exist to please picky users like yourself. Thank you.
DreadNautical is an awesome builder! He is great to work with, creative, and gets stuff done in a timely manner. He made some vehicles for my game and I couldn’t be happier with them.
Let’s not make this personal alright? I clearly can tell I struck a nerve when I mentioned how I viewed your previous build as quantity. My “building” is irrelevant to this post as not once did I compare your work to mine.
I don’t believe triangle and blocky terrain is a good combination. Either should’ve remained strictly blocky or triangular.
I felt a large proportion of the map was rushed since:
Some areas are sloped while other parts of the map is flat.
The trees go from widely spread out to barely even there. Some trees in the map are tilted while the others are straight which just seems off to me without any actual explanation as to how the tree had been tilted.
Some of the textures used didn’t match the build in my opinion.
Why are there so many rocks randomly placed? It just feels extra and out of place.
Why are the trees dead yet the bushes are alive? Why aren’t the bushes covered in snow either? It just doesn’t fully match the theme.
Why is the bottom of the lake snow instead of rock or dirt? It removes any feel of realism you were going for.
It seems that you are still failing to understand that the map wasn’t made to specifically incorporate every possible ‘realistic’ aspect of a natural setting. Nowhere in any of these posts did I previously mention that it was supposed to be “realistic”.
While I do consider many of these criticisms as unnecessarily picky, some are respectable. I thank you for them, and will adopt them into future commissions as to please the few, picky critics that lurk in the deepest corners of the ROBLOX Dev forums.
In future comments, I would personally recommend that you choose to highlight flaws in people’s work, before simply saying they are ‘rushed’ or any conclusive terms that may be interpreted as insults by different people. This will help avoid giving others the impression that you are simply out to get them instead of providing helpful feedback.
I’d hate to be that guy though possibly you shouldn’t be as sensitive to criticism? Criticism leads to improvement, compliments lead to nothing.
For example I liked the hallway in the housing department yet I didn’t mention it since it’s a compliment which you gain nothing from. If I commissioned you however then I would’ve given a mixture of compliments and criticism.
When I referred to your build as rushed it wasn’t intended to be a insult nor criticism, simply only an observation.
