As of approximately one hour ago a live update was pushed which made all "lodge"s (when you hold a sideways movement key inbetween two walls of 1-2 stud thickness, allowing you to stay suspended between the walls) completely impossible to perform.
While this may be considered a bug, and its’ likeness may be similar to “corner clips”, that were patched some years ago, this obbying technique is used frequently in 99% of difficult obbies, rendering all of them completely impossible.
Several other negative side effects have come with this change. I will add to this list as more bugs are found.
When facing a wall and holding both jump and a left directional button, while slightly angled toward it, movement speed is greatly reduced.
When attempting to climb trusses, you can go significantly higher than before, breaking other aspects of obbies. Image enclosed.
“Wraparounds” have become significantly easier due to the friction changes this fastflag being toggled causes. Angling yourself slightly for right-facing wraparounds gives your character 2-3 studs of extra jump length. The opposite is true for left-facing wraparonds. Video enclosed.
If this is not reverted, almost all current obbies will be permanently rendered impossible, and need huge changes to be fixed. All older obbies not receiving continuous support or with inactive owners will also be impossible to complete.
minor edit: this is my first time creating a devforum post. I apologise if this doesn’t follow the exact format required for bug reports, although i did my best to.
Expected behavior
When jumping between two walls who are less than 2 studs and more than 1 stud apart, and holding a sideways directional movement key, the character should stay suspended between them and not fall. An example of how to perform a lodge can be found here:
It’s so stupid how one option that can be toggled breaks a whole community in roblox, what was the purpose of even changing the value? It seems so useless like I genuinely don’t understand other than pissing off ALOT of people because they did the same with laugh clips, corner clips, “almost dance clip”, tab glitching, and just a lot more that seemed unnecessary.
By definition, laugh and corner clips are bugs in the engine. i don’t blame Roblox for taking steps to fix these, and even though they harmed the obbying community short-term, it was understandable. However, lodging is far more prevalent of a technique. If this change stays, it will be catastrophic, and break easily 90%+ of harder obbies on the platform. I do wish changes like this that alter the physics engine were run by popular obby game developers privately (Eternal Towers of Hell, Difficulty Chart Obby creators) before going live.
Sure I understand this but can there not be an option in the workspace or something to toggle between different physics engines? This would make things a lot easier to deal with and maybe even a custom engine where the engine is completely yours meaning an easier way to make a fully fledged custom movement system, physics engine, etc. It would be interesting to see such things like this.
Mobile players almost never get updates, this new physics update doesn’t work on some mobile devices and lodges are still fine, but yeah I don’t think roblox should try to push players into these new broken physics updates and instead have it as a beta feature in roblox studio like what they did previously [although it was absolute garbage] here’s a link to what I’m on about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCFVntHLk84
Hey all. Thank you for reporting the issues associated with the toggling of DFFlagFixFreeFall from false to true. The flag has been reverted, so please let us know if issues still persist. The flag was flipped in an attempt to fix bugs that were reported in the past, and we were unaware that the change would affect a key mechanic used in obby courses. Apologies for the inconvenience that this caused!
Hey, do you also know what could be the cause for this ball/sphere bug that has been happening for mac/mobile users for a while now? (1 year and 2 months). I’ve provided an example of the physics on a Windows PC, and the exact same on a Mobile Device and a MacOS computer. It is also broken on Xbox and Chromebook devices too, so if you could look into that, it’d be great.
