[FEEDBACK] Japanese Temple

 Hey Developers!

:smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I would love any advice you have to give me on this temple I am working on; it is nowhere near complete, but I would love any advice or tips before I am further in.

:rainbow: I would also love any advice on colors for the roofing & also if there is anything I should add to make the roof pop out more and be less plain.

:newspaper: I am planning to add some little ā€œtempleā€ things on top of the roof, like in this image.

The main thing is the color scheme imo, but I am open to all opinions & advice to make this build as best as it can be! Remember, itā€™s still a major wip, but I wanted to hear what you all had to say.

Thanks for your time,
Juno

for the roof, i recommend that instead of an oscilating pattern at 1,0,1,0
you have multiple wave functions combined, like 1,0,3,0.

Could you explain that in simpler terms please?

try adding more variation in the pattern.

Add more colours for the build to help differ each part of the temple.

Really beautiful build, maybe try for more detail? :upside_down_face:

Hey Juno!
A couple of questions:
-Do you use a 3D modeling software? This may help you greatly here.
-How long have you been building for?
-Do you use any studio plugins?

A couple of suggestions from the images:
While some may say you need more detail, I donā€™t think thatā€™s the case. It looks like thereā€™s a lot of parts in a small space/detail thatā€™s apart of your build, so much even, that it actually takes away from the beauty of it. It also damages your gameā€™s performance. A good build is not only stunning visually, but effective in in-game memory. :+1:

I strongly believe that 3D modeling the supports and the roof tile will not only save you a lot of space in memory, and therefore improve your performance, but will also improve the overall look of your build.
Iā€™d suggest spacing out the roof tiles a bit more, and making things look smoother overall (if youā€™re going for realism over cartoony).

Yep, I have been using Blender to make some 3D models for about 6 months now, however, I can always keep improving on this. I have been building in studio for upcoming three years and I use many plugins, like gapfill, rope, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I love the build, but maybe add some green to the roof like it is in the image you provided? It would add some variation.

Looks like a lot of parts, I mean if its for like a showcase or for yourself then that is fine, but if its for a game you will run into a lot of performance problems especially since they are cylinders and cylinders tend to be very laggy if not a mesh. So maybe look into blender to decrease the poly count in the cylinder and to decrease part count as well! Other then that really like how its coming along.

Looks great, you should add some stone benches around the temple as seen in the reference picture, also add some flower as also seen in the reference picture. So far it looks great, but you should get the shape right on the build. As you can see in your picture the roof is just going down like an average home youā€™d see, but maybe you should change the shape of the build entirely as seen in the reference image, the roof is going down but itā€™s corners are going up. One last thing is the background of the build, you should add some lighting to the build and make it seem as itā€™s in a forest. By adding trees, fresh looking sun rays, anything that will give this build a peaceful and zen like vibe.

Adding on to what tsougranis said in variation, I think one thing that could help would be adding a slight rotation to some of the cylinders so it doesnā€™t look as copy pasted and straight.

Fantastic build. Keep up the good work. Focus on detailing your build.
