Feedback on "Automatic Skinning Transfer"

This article needs to specify that you need StarterPlayer.LoadCharacterLayeredClothing enabled to use it.

The documentation for LoadCharacterLayeredClothing (link) also says nothing about automatic skinning.

There’s nothing to imply this behaviour anywhere, which is quite frustrating when we had the setting disabled since we use custom characters and don’t need any accessories handled on spawn. I basically had to stumble into this solution after hours of troubleshooting.

Also, most of the useful information on how WrapTargets and WrapLayers actually work is in this announcement post instead of on any of the actual pages. There’s plenty of tutorials for following templates but very little on how to actually create your own cages for other uses.

Hello @Arch_Mage!

Thanks for submitting this feedback. I know this must’ve been frustrating to troubleshoot and I appreciate you presenting your findings here.

I split this up into two work streams on my end:

  1. I’ve updated both the Automatic Skinning guide and the StarterPlayer API docs to mention the LoadCharacterLayeredClothing requirement. This should be out in our next docs publish.
  2. I’ll transfer over the information from the initial Cage Deformer announcement into a new documentation guide - this will take a bit longer and needs to be folded into our other priorities.

Thanks again for helping improve the docs - feel free to report any other inconsistencies you find and we can help chase them down.

Have a great rest of your day,
naahchos
