Hi friends! I’ve been utilizing the devforums a TON while developing my game but this is my first post so my apologies if it is in the wrong place! (I’m showcasing a game but also asking for feedback so I’m unsure where that falls!)
I recently released my first game “Inferno” earlier this week and did some light advertising. I would really appreciate feedback on things I did well and could improve on. Any type of feedback is appreciated since I was the only person behind scripting, modeling, gfx, blah blah.
I have a few ideas for future updates but my main hang up is what kind of “replayable features” I could add to my game. Right now, once the player finishes the “content,” there really isn’t a reason to continue playing the game aside from being top of the leaderboard. I’m on the fence on adding a rebirthing option which could fit the game pretty well… Mostly wondering what your creative minds would suggest!
First off Good on you for finishing a game. I still struggle finishing because I want to work on something new after a while.
It’s great for a simulator. Especially for your first game solo.
A few picky criticisms:
Seems unresponsive sometimes
Sometimes hits on trees feel delayed, or don’t happen at all.
I think the reason for this is because your using .Touched to detect hits. When maybe a mouse.Hit or raycasting would work better.
Opening shops, and teleporting takes a 1-2 seconds to happen after pressing the button.
Needs a bit more rewarding feedback
First off actually leveling up, or changing the color of the fire feels great!
Make sure all of the feedback happens at the same time (Filling up backpack, sound effect of hitting the tree, Axe hitting the tree.
Trees could use a bit of shake, when being hit.
A few other things
It could use with a bit of customisation to make my base feel different.
Make the sticks in the fire grow with the fire
It’d be nice if you could find some way to introduce randomness, maybe trees give you different amounts of wood each time, maybe when trees spawn there is a likelihood that they’ll give 10x as much or something.
Specifically for replayability
Throw in a rebirth function, (Extinguish the flame). Allow for it after about 1-2 hours worth of progress.
Encourage players to play with friends.
Just make sure there is always some content that the player could still reach.
Thank you for such a descriptive response!
I definitely struggled getting the trees to be responsive so I’ll be looking into that soon. I like the idea of having customization options at your base and I will definitely add that in the future along with more content and a rebirth option. I liked your phrase “Extinguish the flame” and might use words along those lines
