So recently I made this gfx with a hdri and for the first time in a while, I finally edited one of my GFX’s However, I like the non-edited version more because even though the noob looks a bit weird, it feels a lot more calm and it looks a bit cleaner too. Is 1 or 2 better, and what can I do to improve my GFX skills?
Roblox.com and real life styles don’t really match. I can clearly see it is just a rock, a background of Google images or some other site, and a noob sitting.
Please make it look like it is a ROBLOX Gfx which is made looking like Roblox not real life. I like realism, just not a slapped on background.
It’s pretty nice looking, but needs more adjustment:
The camera position is too far from the rock/noob that its making the details of the noob blurry and small when it’s supposed to be the main focus of the render, you can show a lot more by just moving the camera closer to the main focus or moving the camera to the side a bit to show the limbs more.
The noob model looks like it’s a hybrid between R15 and R6, the body has a lowertorso while the rest of the body doesn’t have a lowerlimb or hand/foot. I don’t really know what body types you are using for the model but either way you should improve the pose, if you want the noob to look like it’s on top of the rock then you should collaborate the surface of the rock with the pose of the noob, I can clearly see that it’s standing perfectly straight on top of a wonky sloped angle. For example, in this photograph the toy is placed accordingly to the curvature of the object:
For the textures, it looks pretty decent on the rock, but when compared to the noob model it doesn’t compare very well. I know that a noob model wouldn’t have any realistic PBR texture but you should still try adding it. First thing I noticed is that the palette on the noob model looks off compared to what it should look like:
While it is minor, the original noob palette is less vibrant making it more suitable for a more realistic scene. Additionally you could add a slight glossy/plastic material to the noob model just to give it a better surface shading similar to below:
For the lighting, you nailed the light source of the lamp but other than that you didn’t try to add much more to it. There’s somehow no cast shadow on the noob making it look like it’s floating on top of the rock, there’s even no reflected light of the noob on the surface of the rock, to be honest it just looks like it’s screenshotted from roblox instead of rendered from blender minus the rock itself:
I’m assuming your testing textures or realistic approaches? If so try to give the background a meaning what role it plays? What can I do to spice my design? From looking at it there are different ways to improve the quality of the image a background is good but it seems like you slapped a image in the design and that’s all. Try adding objects whether it be buildings, cars, clouds and different sources people socializing with each other so on and so forth.
Know from the feedback the background doesn’t fit the character theme you’re wanting the image looks a little blurry and too much edit was produced, in the second approach I would recommend instead of slapping a background with realistic lighting and what I’m assuming is a texture and calling it a day try to experiment into different poses, models, lighting features, and other techniques.
Editing software is good for adding effects, different lighting features and to spice the image a bit more find developers that inspire you and gather inspiration and take it from there looking at peoples work is a good to improve your skills a lot more something that’ll help along the process. It’s a good attempt though!
For example: Different editing software are used for improving the design a lot more, (such as gimp, paint.net for adding a bit of realism and feel to the scene
