Feedback on new game

Hello! I just finished and released my first game that I’ve been working on for quite some time. This is my first ever project, and I learned how to code, model, animate, etc. while working on it. It’s currently in pre-alpha right now, so there are probably many bugs. Any feedback on how I could improve / bugs I can fix is greatly appreciated!

Interesting game idea, might get more popular. Here are some things I’ve noticed:

  • Tutorial is way too long. It should take no longer than 10 seconds. Otherwise players will leave the game.
  • Graphics needs to be improved, at least in my opinion.
  • Perhaps add some sound to the game.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will shorten the tutorial as you said and will start working on some more sound effects.

What do you mean by better graphics? Like the meshes are kinda weird?

I played it, and have a few thoughts to share.

The game felt pretty good, mechanically speaking. The kicking and sprinting worked well. However, that’s where my enjoyment ends.

  • The tutorial is too long. I really don’t wanna read 3 paragraphs of text explaining the game.
You can have long tutorials, but it should be more showing and less telling. Make the tutorial more interactive, and don’t explain all of it at once.
  • Broken leg mechanics are confusing. It just happened as I played in the first area, and I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I’d suggest it having more of an impact in the later areas, but not at the start.
  • I’m not a fan of the character model, I don’t think tall & blocky proportions look good, and the colors are plain and oversaturated. (I understand that much of this issue is personal taste, and you probably used that custom rig for your broken leg mechanic, but players could dislike the lack of personalization/lack of options.)
  • I’m not fond of the game’s theme. You… kick innocent animals, and get rewarded? The animals aren’t even mean; they literally run away from you. I like animals, and hurting animals to get rewards- even if not real- may not sit well with players.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I said above, this game is in pre-alpha and there are many features missing. There is some customization currently, but as the game is not centered around it I didn’t want to spend too much time on it. I will boost the customization at some point in the future.

Regarding your opinion on the main theme, I do realize that the sense of humor it uses doesn’t sit well with some people. My goal wasn’t to make it appeal to everyone; I wanted to be able to build a skill I want by doing something I personally find funny. Apologies if you genuinely didn’t feel comfortable playing the game, but I do appreciate the feedback.

I will implement a more interactive tutorial in the future. Sounds challenging, but I bet I can do it. I also will improve the leg breaking mechanic to make it more obvious what can break your leg, and make it so that there are more low level punties in the early areas.
