A quick terrain I made using meshes, unions, and roblox terrain. This is for a project of mine, the whole theme should represent an island, where seemingly you are alone, but you start to notice that it isn’t fully true. Would like some feedback.
It is in a really raw state right now, with empty spaces and some left over blockouts, including dev materials out of bounds everywhere. But if you still wanna try it: Secrets of The Empty Chain [InDev] - Roblox
I think the terrain design is really nice! I like the design and the story. The map is very large and decorated and the lighting is nice. Although when I got into the water, since I couldn’t jump, I was stuck there - Even though its not done!
I’d like to preface by saying this looks AWESOME! Absolutely stunning work, and I love the text that comes as you walk by parts of the map. I decided to go through the whole thing so I could find any flaws, which I’ve written below.
The wind looks weird at times for two reasons, one being that it comes out of nowhere, presumably a block with a particle emitter, and the other being that it’ll clip through the tree leaves awkwardly making it look less realistic.
The out-of-nowhere bit could perhaps be fixed by adding fog that’ll hide where the wind is coming from, and moving the fog emitters back so that we can’t see it all arriving from one place.
I’m also attaching two screenshots of things that look weird, one being that the cobblestone under the house steps looks weird since the stones don’t match up. The other is a weird rock near the start where there’s a hole cut through it, although this may be on purpose because I see other parts inside of it.
Once again, absolutely great work and I’d love to see more coming from you.
Edit: This music is also really nice. Can I ask where you got it from, and if you made it, what tools you used? This is something I can listen to on repeat.
Thanks for the feedback!
Wind was an idea that was added recently, still messing with it (At one point it clipped in the lake zone). Probably will remove it, or make it appear only at the beach level, which will be accessible later.
House is a placeholder model for now, later I’ll make an actual mesh for it.
The rock hole supposed to be the first encounter with a hint of someone being here not long ago, being that there was a lit up candle. Though it was removed later, it seems I forgot to cover up the hole itself, whoops, thanks for pointing it out!
Music is from roblox’s toolbox, it is called For Esther by Kingdom 2 (original artist). It’s supposed to be a small little easter egg that refers to the main inspiration for the project, Dear Esther (If you liked my project you totally should try it out! It’s a truly amazing experience).
It sounds like Dear Esther is a paid game, but I looked at the pictures of the game on google and it seems pretty nice! Hope my feedback was helpful for you, by the way, and thanks for the name of the music.
Here are some audios you might like for your game: Uneasy Calm Rivers Of Light
I might use some of these in my own games (Rivers Of Light I am, at least.)
