When viewing someone’s profile I’ve used to always be able to see a users trust level, for example if I go take a look at my profile my trust level is “Member”. This glitch or atleast it appears to be a glitch has been happening since 05/18/25 (for me)
This might’ve been an intentional change due to the lack of uses for trust levels.
I know Juan specifically has been requesting it quite a lot:
I doubt it, because when the update dropped I was able to see users trust levels perfectly fine I am however aware that we can’t view visitors profiles or users who havent posted on the dev forum.
Hey there, I’m also experiencing the same issue; my trust level isn’t showing up on my profile too. I’ve checked some others’ profiles and it seems that the issue reoccurs for those too.
Yes, so the update likely added a setting that allows them to toggle trust level visibility on profiles, and they probably turned it on. Hopefully Hooksmith can confirm
I haven’t changed any settings of my own for a few days now, and I was able to see my Trust Level yesterday…
I believe he may be referring to the software engineers enabling a setting as Roman said that toggles the visibility of a trust level, however if it is a setting us users as individuals can set then I have not messed with any of my settings.
Hi, can you explain what is the impact here for you? These labels are obsolete as far as community users should be concerned.
They were likely turned invisible in order to avoid discrimination between community members. Factual regulars & members still have access to special categories, abilities and etc. There are certain downsides with this change, but avoiding discrimination between users sounds like a priority idea.
They were not removed completely, they were turned invisible.
yeah, this is intentional because a .trust-level { display: none !important; }
rule was added to the css. sad trust levels are being removed entirely instead of being upgraded
Upgraded? They are meaningless here now, they literally mean nothing, their scope has been reduced to binary “can post” and “cannot post” and there isn’t really a need for anything different.
that was kinda the point of my last sentence, i personally like how they work by default which is more “use the site enough and you’ll gain x y and z” which was done away with here in like 2021. i kinda understand it (considering theyve been useless here for a long time now) but the default behavior is still better in my opinion
So does this mean that this is intentional?
Well, please trust that this was done away with for a good reason.
To name only a few ways trust levels failed us in the past, TLs pushed users to engage in large amounts of artificial activity to “rank up” which generated spam and malicious behavior; TLs blocked and turned away users with legitimate interest, (sometimes urgent) issues, and needs from posting; and created a weird social hierarchy problem that many users were unable to be mature about. This is only a few of the issues inherent to the TL system.
Discourse’s expectations on how users should gain access to a forum are simply not applicable to the needs we have here. They haven’t even been relevant here for several years now, it’s proven that there is no need for them.

It really looks like you didn’t understand my definition of “discrimination”. By saying “discrimination” i was talking about the difference between people holding trust levels. You don’t want people with “member” trust level to look at regulars as “upper class of society”. That’s what I mean by discrimination between users.
this is a forum about a video game why would people do this
Seems to be an intentional change.
If you want to bring them back, you can use a CSS modifying browser extension (I use one called “Stylus”), and add the following rule for the devforum:
.trust-level { display: block !important; }
Edit: Well this is now useless, as they’ve removed Regular entirely - not just visually
Hey, yes this was an intentional change, so we could test if anyone had a use case that would be broken if we removed trust level 2 usage entirely. Didn’t want to comment on it before to avoid influencing the discussion.
We want to streamline everything to just be visitor or member. Trust level 2 (“regular”) has been stale for a few years now with no permissions or privileges attached.
This seems to have been the only thread posted about this issue, and there are no use cases or problems brought up related to knowing the difference between trust level 1 and 2 as expected. So we’ve moved all trust level 2 users to just be trust level 1 users now.
There is no impact to users outside of the text on the label on the profiles. No permissions or access or privileges are changing. You’re now either a visitor or a member of the forum. Visitor profiles will not be accessible, and member profiles only show up once they have made some posts.
The label has been reinstated for now but all profiles should just say “Member” (outside of for some staff member accounts where it might say e.g. “Leader”).
Thanks for posting this topic and hope this makes sense.
I find that this is kind of an issue, as it does affect the entire functionality of This group. It only allows you in if you have trust level Member or higher.
Currently, the group is impossible to join, regardless of your current trust level, because the ranking bot can’t view it.
It would be nice if this could get fixed, as I was planning on joining the group.
Thanks
