Fourtracks. Rhythm Game

Hey! New update!!! (6/21/19)

  • Now the front of hold notes, when pressed, will stick to the trigger button, making it even more like other rhythm games!
  • Bug fix: Fixed the “perfect hit” position to be in line with the trigger buttons.

Hello, all!

I am here to discuss my most important project on Roblox: fourtracks.

The idea for this game came from the very popular game RoBeats!. Man, when I played that game I knew I liked rhythm games a lot. Then, I had the idea to create my own. So I opened up Studio and sstarted, but then I was stuck. “Whaaa how do you do this is harrrddd…”, I thought (not verbatum). I learned very much how to work with tables and arrays, then I learned how to use a lerping function (aka linear inperpolation). Ack. I’ll probably very soon make an in depth tutorial on how to make a rhythm game (can I get a woot woot)!

Anyway, here’s some known bugs:

  • The framerate may drop on extreme beatmaps, can repro sometimes, but usually not.
  • The keys used to hit the notes are still not rebindable (the ability to do this is in the pipeline)
  • The UI needs a bit of work. Not exactly a bug, but still…
  • If a player changes his/her username, and then comes back to the game, and gets a new spot on the leaderboard, the scripts will treat that player as if he never was on the leaderboard tl;dr, you can have more than one spot on the leaderboard if you change your username.

So that’s about it, I’ll be updating this thread to reflect changes in the core engine that runs fourtracks. behind the scenes, the Axis Engine, as well as changes to the game itself.

P.S. - I will be making Axis Engine open-source on Roblox and possibly GitHub, so you can make your own rhythm game out of the core engine behind fourtracks.!
