This asset manager could’ve been great, but I don’t like the new manager.
It’s great that the asset manager is updated, but I likes how every asset type’s category was already in folders in the legacy asset manager.
My use of the asset manager was very simple and only required minimal clicks to find what I wanted.
With the updated Asset Manager, I don’t like how messy everything is, having to manually reorganize every asset type into their own respective folders, and sometimes other assets that my group doesn’t own appears with the assets.
But it’s not completely bad, the addition of being able to add more folders to reorganize your assets is Great, and a lot of other quality of life was added that a lot of developers could appreciate. But I feel like It’ll be difficult trying to adapt to the new workflow, even with the instructions to make the asset manager look similar to the legacy version.
In my opinion, it would be nice to have some assets preorganized like it was before, and then the developer could reorganize them if they wanted. It would also be nice to make filters and the group folders properly show what assets are owned because despite the filters and whatever I select, other assets from groups I can edit still appear
Just my thoughts
Yes, exactly. Imagine having a game which has 5 or 10, or even 3 places in it that all share identical base content. Now imagine that you’re adding new shared content. Would you want to have to open every place and publish them just to update the shared content? That would be inconvenient at best.
You can still use models the way that I’m asking for, as I said previously, where you can simply insert the model at runtime and it will be updated. That can work for a lot of things, but it does have the potential issues of race conditions with players or other scripts, as well as possibly failing to insert in the first place. Now, you can certainly design around this so that your game can handle these cases, but I think it would be better of Roblox created a native solution that doesn’t require any specially-designed systems to support it.
PLEASE add a way to delete items from the Asset Inventories.
Often we import something - only to see it’s broken or not the right items.
This just builds up as JUNK and just makes it annoying we can’t remove it.
I’m sure Roblox wouldn’t mind us deleting useless files (saving space).
Would really appreciate this delete garbage ability.
please allow expanding/collapsing inventories category as a whole, and resizing the width of the side panel (I think this was already a feature in one of the beta versions)
it is quite inconvenient to use the asset manager in smaller widths, such as docking it along the explorer, with the side panel taking half the view and the asset names being truncated to “…”
seeing all inventories all the time is also unnecessary, bloating up the vertical space which could be utilized better for viewing the folders in the project
other than that, nice to see improvements to the asset manager!
First of all, transcending the game. Thanks for adding configuration support to recreate prior workflows. Very nice improvement to organization.
Next, a beg - I beseech you, similar to the other posters, please please PLEASE add the ability to update all places in a universe without having to open each manually:
Having the ability to publish specific (or all) places in a few clicks without opening them would actually save me hours per game update.
Hey y’all! Long reply incoming as I try to address everyone, thanks for the patience
@VegetationBush Not currently. We’re looking into adding the ability able to hide/remove assets from the lists! Let us know also where you feel the bloat, whether you’d like them removed from your inventory or from the experience inventory.
@GunsForGuns34@7yooso we’re aware of these feedback points! Will forward these again to the respective teams.
@CynthiaValor thank you for the report! I’ll forward this also to the right team internally.
@Firefly_Studio@Halferee We should have a fix for this issue in this week’s Studio release! Please let us know if this is still an issue afterwards.
@light_lanterns Sorry to hear you’re experiencing the issues! The workflow you describe should definitely be possible with filters. You shouldn’t be seeing other assets from your other groups, unless they are shared (and those can be filtered out). Please let me know if you see otherwise and I can file a bug report!
@Qbytez the sidebar should still be resizable, but we’re aware that the click can be finnicky at times and are working to improve it. There is also an alterative mode to Asset Manager if you make it skinny where the sidebar goes away, or you can manually dismiss it with the top left button (or Tab key).
For the asset manager, I think it’s good user experience if only the used assets were listed. I think the primary usage of the asset manager is see which assets we are currently using, not those that we have already removed. Perhaps a separate tab or filter would be nice!
not a big fan of the update, since assets you upload that aren’t put in the games StarterGUI dont show in the images tab (you have to go to creator store to get the asset ID)
The folder named exactly the same as your games name is that behavior. If you uploaded images to a group, locate the group’s folder. Or if you uploaded under your account, click the folder that is named after you.
The first folder option in the drop down is named same as the game which only shows images in the game.
