Galileo Toolkit - Building and Symmetry plugin

What is the Galileo Toolkit?

The Galileo Toolkit is a useful plugin that offers features for builders and UI artists to create faster and better.

What does this plugin enable you to do? Currently, in v2.2, you can use 4 features.

Installing & Setup

The first step is to add the plugin to your studio via the Creator store
This plugin is free! (for now at least)

Once you have installed the plugin, you will see a button to open the plugin’s main page:

Building Features

Symmetry Tool

image
This is the first tab you encounter in the Galileo Toolkit, as it’s the most important tool in the kit.

This tool is split in the modes that you can use to ensure symmetry and keep your parts even.

Division mode

This is the default mode when you first open the plugin, and it’s the most useful one out of the three. This tool allows you to divide a Part with an x amount of Models or other parts.

Selecting

To select the part to be divided, you simply have to select the part normally in your studio interface, and then click the blue “Select Guide Part” button on the toolkit’s UI.

To select the part (or model) to divide with, you simply have to select the part normally in your studio interface, and then click the blue “Select Part to Clone” button on the toolkit’s UI.
Note that this is optional, but if it’s not specified, the plugin will divide with the guide part.

Finalize

Great! You can already press “Finalize” to paste your parts in the workspace, but, you can preview your work by pressing the purple, “Show Preview” button. This will allow you to still modify the settings, but also see the parts already in the workspace.

Axes

Sometimes, you can see this happening to your preview, why? Well, this is because, you didn’t set the axis right. In the settings section, you can see the 3 axes. Simply select the correct axis and the preview will update automatically.

Partitions

As you can see, in the UI a partitions textbox will appear, this will accept only Integers. This will allow you to select the x amount of sections that the selected guide part will be divided in. Only numbers greater than 0 will work.

Toggle switches

Two toggle switches are also present in the settings:
Include Start/End → this switch allows you to define if the ends should be included in the partition calculation or not.

Smart position → this switch allows you to toggle the “smart position” behavior, that “raises” the model or part on top of the selected guide. Turning this off is not recommended, but useful if you wish to intend on using the plugin in a different way, or if the calculation breaks.

Advanced Options

This is an advanced option, you will only be able to see this section if you enabled the toggle in the “Settings” tab of the plugin

Use manual gap → This toggle allows you to manually set a gap (in studs) between the clone parts.

Custom offset → Allows you to set an offset to be added to the partitions calculation.

Actions

Show preview → Allows you to view how the end result will be, and automatically updates when the settings are changed. (Note: to automatically update, you have to have the feature in the settings tab of the plugin)

Finalize → Creates the parts in the workspace. Not affected if you change the settings after.

Clear All → Cleans clones of the parts that might of been left over from the preview.

Flashlight Tool

This tool allows you to view dark areas in studio, while not placing temporary, bright block lights in your build.

Create Flashlight → Creates the flashlight part that will be attached to your camera. The configuration of the light can be changed by the sliders that will appear after clicking this. Note that a “GalileoFlashlightHolder” part will be created in your workspace.

Group similar

This tool enables you to select similar-sized parts in your workspace, in a set range from the sample part. Filters can also be applied to include only same color, shape, material…

Search settings

Size tolerance → Controls how much the part size can differ from the sample (in %).
Max distance → Define how far from the sample the tool will search (in studs).

Actions

Show preview → Applies a glow to all of the parts that the tool has found similar.
Group selected parts → Groups all of the parts found in a Model.
Clear preview → Stops the search.

UI Features

Currently, in v2.2 there is only 1 UI feature, but I plan on adding more soon!

Icon Library

Allows you to copy hand picked IDs of Decals for your game. All of the decals are white, so you can choose any color.
The tool also allows for search and tag filtering. IDs can be suggested via our communications server (13+ only. Visit the plugin store page for the link).

Other

Settings

Allows you to set preferences from all around the plugin. The toggles are self-explained, so, go try for yourself and create more efficiently!
