Game Engine not optimizing server location when creating new servers for Experiences

The issue I am experiencing within the Engine (I believe?) is one a lot of the communities I am associated with continue to experience. When generating or starting servers for our games, we generally try to have low ping as we all live relatively close to the EASTERN Server Locations. So, by comparing pings, we can tell if we are within those regions or not.(Usually 30-60 ping)

Recently, we’ve not been able to get any Server Regions other than West, as 95% of our playerbase is usually sitting at a minimum of 120 ping. Where our game(s) we play require our ping to remain as low as possible so it is fair for all users, I am curious as to why this is happening. This begun happening roughly a month ago, assuming it was an update or something, or bug, and would fix. But, seeing this continue, I’ve decided to make this post here.

I’ve done everything I can as a developer to try to get these regions to be EASTERN, and there’s nothing else that I can do. Even when setting the only regions to be in Canada, we still end up with ping that is from American servers, specifically Boardman, Oregon(using HTTP scripts, we displayed the location of the Server Region).

Any help or information regarding this would be appreciated, as this doesn’t make any sense to me, and I’ve done research on the DevForum, and online through other posts/links, and I haven’t seen this issue posted anywhere.

Thanks for your time!

Expected behavior

When this issue didn’t persist, we would continually get hosts within the EASTERN region of the servers on ROBLOX. This was proven by our ping, being sub 60 most of the time for 95% of the users that participate in these games. I am just wanting that to return.

I’m having this issue too. Every time I start a server from the eastern United States, it puts me in an Oregon server. This has been causing issues for my group as the Oregon servers seem to be particularly laggy.

I would be most appreciative if Roblox would release more controls for server location to developers.

My game isn’t big enough to run multiple servers on it at once, and yet Roblox frequently splits people up into multiple servers to try and help people get better ping. I understand that, but when it is splitting the game from a single 20 player server to two 10 player servers, it isn’t helping. I would rather have the increased ping than a barren server.

im also having this exact same issue since the start of the year

Yeah this issue seems to persist amongst lots of groups I’ve reached out with hat have communities that rely on the server location for their group experiences or whatever reasons they have that require experiences to be “as close to the server host” as possible.

I’d love ROBLOX to be able to provide at least a response to this response thread or threads similar to it that maybe I just haven’t found? This bug directly affects I know my communities with around 10 thousand members and others for sure.

Can confirm I am having this issue. Another issue somewhat related is that when I would be teleported to a ReservedServer (like in Voyagers), instead of a Singapore server it would assign us a “Boardman, Oregon” server, and out of 4 people, one specific person would have 700 to 1.2k ping, while the rest are at 200-300.

Very disruptive as we had to constantly go back to the main game and retry until we got a Singapore server.

Within my communities I’ve helped with we’ve tried the reserved server method as well and still are also experiencing this issue.

I hope ROBLOX will at least give a response in explanation in regards to why this happens as I know the server generation or “hosting” is done through “the best connection area possible” which certainly in your case and mine would not be Western USA.

Hi @BryanFehr, we apologize for the belated reply. This thread is a related to a series of threads about players in eastern European countries being unable to play in closer DCs. You might already be aware of the recent Roblox ban in some eastern European regions. Unfortunately these circumstances are out of our control, and we’re sorry to say that we are unable to move forward with a resolution at this time.

I will mark this thread closed as a Duplicate of this one (among others).

im pretty sure these people are talking about issues related to eastern/western US servers, not even related to Europe? OP is from Canada by devforum info, so idk how’s that related to my thread over there.

Roblox puts people in servers that are overloaded the least

I do not believe this is just an eastern European issue. Despite being from the eastern coast of the US, Roblox has exclusively been putting me in European and Singapore servers all evening. If I join a game with no players, it still puts me in a new European or Singapore server. Something is seriously wrong with server location logic.

This issue comes and goes weirdly, but still I don’t believe that of the multitude of eastern/central servers there are for ROBLOX that constitutes us going into EU Servers sometimes (Which seemingly ROBLOX has a larger presence in like GB) and Western Servers consistently.

So putting us in ones that are “less overloaded” makes sense, but I don’t understand why, even at obscure times of day for said EST servers (I tested this with friends at 6 AM (0600) EST), we’d still be placed into those EU/Western servers.
