Game Feedback for Struggling Concurrent Playerbase

Hello! I recently did a complete rework on a game my team made a while back called Spleef. It is a concept we took from Minecraft about a year ago (before Fall Guys) and we took about a week to make a fun, simple designed game. At first it was just for the hell of it but then we decided to put some money into ads for that game and it did not do so well, so we dropped it. Fast forward to about a month ago we decided to revamp the game as we had a bunch of players who loved it, and I figured I have learned how to better monetize a game. Even with this much improved version of the game we are still struggling to get off the ground. Our goal is to reach a higher concurrent playerbase of a few hundred, any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

When we released the new Spleef, we swapped files with the old one, in hopes the visit count would help us gain more traction.

Some things I have done:

  • Emailed a ton of Youtubers
  • Did about 7 days worth of 5k on ads (around 15 concurrent players, literally about as good as not running them at all)
  • Did one 20k day on ads yesterday (netted us about 36 players at peak, much lower than my goal)

TLDR: We are struggling to get our game off the ground, and any honesty/pointers/tips about the game would help a bunch.

This isn’t looking good.
First problem is the CTR on the ad. This is why it’s important to test many ad variations using a small amount of robux to see which ones are most effective.

Second problem is the game ratings. One of the main things players look at before joining a game is the like to dislike ratio. Even if the game is meaningfully improved, the ratings aren’t going to change much. Consider abandoning the place and re-uploading it for a clean slate when the time is right.

Third problem would be a couple issues in the game. Promoting a group in-game always leads to more dislikes. Some maps have noticeable lag. The music is a bit repetitive. I’m sure there are other problems but overall I think it’s among the better games posted in game design support.

When we moved this new game file over it was already at this rating % so I don’t believe the rating is indicative of how the players feel of this game but the rest of your points seem valid. With the amount of data the players have on this game, abandoning the file is just not an option at this point. I will look into looping through a few more songs in-game, and see if I can optimize a bit better to reduce lag. Thank you for the reply!
