I released 8 Ball Duels, a competitive online 8 ball game where you can play a match with friends or queue up with a random opponent. I added it to every platform and recently improved the controls for console.
The ratings continue to be negative even after improving the controls and adding a like goal. I believe that it has the best controls, game feel and enjoyability of any 8 ball pool game on the Roblox platform. For comparison, other 8 ball games have ~75% approval rating and my game sits at around a 50-60% approval rating.
Can someone help identify whatās wrong with the game because Iām struggling to find whatās causing such low ratings?
Iām having the same problem, seems players just dislike games for fun, or to be jerks. Not sure, but it stinks.
Have you checked your Feedback? has anyone said anything there.
Should be at Creator Dashboard
If youāre running ads, thatās probably the case. Or at least I hope it is (since it recently happened to me). My own game Iām testing right no dropped from 76% to 60% in a span of a two weeks (from ads). The rating was fine when I ran it before, it just plummeted this time, despite improving onboarding funnel.
Ads donāt really give you the target audience, so your rating will be lower by default. If you recently got off ads because you started to get home recommendations (which give you much better players), it will still take some time to have the rating recover.
After playing the game, the biggest issue I see is simply that there arenāt enough visual/audio effects. There should always be background music for games like these. Find a better sound for hitting a billiard as well, since it sounds more like a fly swatter than a billiard.
SFX is needed for:
billiard rolling
billiard entering hole
billiard hitting other billiards (current one is delayed and too quiet)
billiard hitting thee edges
VFX is needed for:
hitting the billiard
entering the hole (the current vfx doesnt feel satisfying)
Possible add higher resolution textures as well. Games like these rely on good graphics and effects to pull in users, since the gameplay is pretty simple.
The gameplay itself is fine, and the bots are well designed, since they feel human to play with.
When I started playing.. I was to shoot 1st.. and I just couldnāt get it to work for some reason.. (the pull back for power).. so the other player got to shoot 1st.
The point was.. this game seemed broken.. and I almost left when it was the other players turn.
This is where I think you might be getting the dislikes.. other players also getting āfrustratedā.
Once I took my shot (2nd turn).. I somehow got it figured out.. and didnāt look back since.
So here is the question⦠Did the other players also struggle on their 2nd turn ??
Could it be harder on mobile⦠who knows.
But there I believe is the problem.. players struggling on the starting blocks,
Maybe some more instructions for them.. or a short demo.
Itās a great game⦠completed my 1st 30mins (I like supporting new Devs like me).. and had a good player coming back for punishment (7 - 2)
However.. I was stuck on Canada.. as USA had no players.. so I guess it needs more players to get thru Canada.
Itās pretty decent.. so gave it like & a favourite
Hmm the game is good but Iām thinking itās an exact copy cause itās exactly 8 ball pool, the game we all enjoyed as kids and still now. Why would we play this instead of 8 ball pool itself?
Maybe people dislike it cause of that, there wasnāt much creativity put into it.
Also the aiming on mobile i dont know, but its just not smooth at all, I really struggled.
Like I want to say good game cause its impressive you created this on Roblox, but its barely even your game cause its exactly 8 ball poolā¦
How does that even make sense?
Is every G/UI the exact same colour for colour.. buttons & others ?
If that is not exactly the same.. then thereās zero reason why he canāt make it.
Thereās zero patent on pool playing games.. or different versions.. unless itās an EXACT copy ?
I have seen so many different version already - I would need to see the version you speak of.
Yes.. that could be a bigger reason.. immediately getting a dislike.
Tho I thought you need to actually play the game ⦠before being allowed to vote ?
Thank you for this help! Thereās supposed to be a tutorial and I think since it didnāt play, it caused your power up bar to break for that first turn you experienced. I believe I fixed it for new players.
Did you change the rules? I thought it used to subtract half of the round reward when joining a duel. I thought that was a fun mechanic. Was this related to a TOS rule or no?
Anyway, 70% likes is pretty good I think. Maybe people who lose a round are rage disliking.
