As a developer, it is annoying to see my games name get truncated when seeing what a friend is playing.

My game, Benji’s Pug Universe - Work In Progress, appears as Benji’s Pug Uni…, which is quite annoying, it would be really nice to be able to have abbreviations to our game names.

For example, Benji’s Pug Universe - Work in Progress would be B.P.U - W.I.P.

This could be a really nice feature and can also help understand what game they are playing better, if it is a game like Work at a Pizza Place, which would be truncated as Work At A P…, as it could be seen as various other games.

I completely forgot I made this post lol, thanks for pointing out some issues that could occur with this.

You can just click on your friend and then see the full game name. So what’s the point of this feature?

I believe the point of this is to provide premade, abbreviated versions of the game name, for use instead of just truncating the full game name, because doing so can sometimes create really unfortunate versions of the name where it becomes a insinuation of something bad.

Interesting idea, though your abbreviation doesn’t provide any more information compared to the truncated version. In either case, a player would just hover over to see the full name (and the icon) if they needed more context.

Perhaps what you’re getting at would be the same thing we have for individual users — nicknames. Players could set their own names for a game that they can recognise quickly in these kinds of formats.

It would be bad if the abbreviation ended up as a bad word resulting in some games getting renamed if their abbreviation in bad.

Also old game would be unable to change their name so this seems like a good way to get some game names removed.

Sounds good on paper but it should be clarified that it is up to the developer to input an abbreviation and definitely no automation.

Also, it’s bad practice to have stuff like [WIP] in a title. This information is better off in the description.

Also, abbreviations are useless unless someone knows your game beforehand and it will just cause even more confusion than the truncation will. When I say “DW” am I referring to Deepwoken, Dandy’s World, or Decaying Winter?
