Gameplay videos have now fully rolled out on Home within the Recommended For You (RFY) sort. If you have not uploaded a video yet, now is the time to show users what your game actually feels like.
How to Upload a Gameplay Video
A strong video does not need to explain everything. It needs to make the core experience obvious within the first few seconds. To upload a video:
Open Creator Hub.
Go to your Place settings.
Select the Videos tab.
Upload your gameplay video.
Once approved, your video will be eligible to play on Home.
What Makes a Gameplay Video Effective
Show real, current in-game footage and your core gameplay loop.
Keep the video focused and easy to understand within the first few seconds.
Include multiple parts of your game only if everything shown is currently available.
Avoid cinematic trailers, dramatized gameplay, promotional text, real-life footage, voiceovers, narration, and music with lyrics.
We connected with the teams behind Superstar Baseball and Notoriety to understand what they did and what they learned. A few practical patterns stood out: keep the preview focused and choose clips that show the core loop and pacing.
Superstar Baseball hosted a gameplay video competition in its official Discord. Community members recorded exciting gameplay and edited it into short videos, with prizes for the top three. When the video was present, Superstar Baseball had a 30% lift in RFY plays and a 31% lift in RFY playtime, along with more new player traffic.
The team behind Notoriety: A PAYDAY® Experience spent a few hours making its video, mostly on editing. They chose clips that told a story within the limited playback time and made the shift from slower stealth to fast action easy to understand. When the video was present, Notoriety saw a 41% lift in RFY plays and a 39% lift in RFY playtime, along with a more invested player base.
Measurement note
Results above reflect RFY testing conducted June 7th to June 26th 2026 for experiences with uploaded gameplay video. Lifts are directional test results, not guarantees of future performance.
I will be using this for all my games! I have editing skills from content creation so this will be easier for me to grab player’s attention than thumbnails by directly showcasing the gameplay highlights in my game’s
I really hope that more games start utilizing videos. Now that AI thumbnails are very common on the front page, videos are a good way to see what a game actually looks like instead of whatever this is:
Great update! There are so many things you cant show in just 1 thumbnail to represent your entire game (without lots of text or splitting the thumbnail into quadrants, which is less effective since it makes what you want to show smaller)
We’ve added “Video” as annotations across the Acquisition, Engagement, and Retention tabs to provide context on the performance. You can enable that view by clicking on the “Show annotations” drop down.
Stay tuned for upcoming updates on deeper analytics for video.
This is a great feature, and I strongly believe that raw gameplay videos do a much better, organic way of showcasing your game to attract potential users than thumbnails.
However, I’ve ran into a few issues with how this currently works, and think these changes would make this feature AMAZING.
The three video upload limit is extremely restricting, I believe this exists mostly to gate malicious users from hogging moderation resources, however, giving games with a decent amount of traffic on the algorithm the ability to upload more than this would be highly beneficial.
Give us the ability to upload a new video without taking down the existing one. Because it takes 24 hours for videos to be reviewed, and for this duration, the game is forced to have no video, which can negatively affect PTR from the experience detail page as well as plays from the RFY page.
Lastly, being able to see the actual conversion metrics similar to Thumbnails, as well as allowing us to run personalization A/B testing on Videos would let us try out different ideas and optimize videos to perform better on the RFY page.
These are just my suggestions, and I personally think my team would benefit heavily from this, looking forward to where you guys will be taking this, it’s a step in the right direction for game discovery, and I’m very excited to see what comes next.
