[Gathering Feedback] The Multiverse Project - Custom 2D/2.5D Decal/Spritesheet RP

Hi everyone, i’ve been working on a project called The Multiverse Project (TMP) for a long time now, originally released back in June 2021.

It started as a classic “Comedy World” (GoAnimate) style roleplay, months later after launch, custom decals were introduced, and for a long time, it was a standard 2D roleplay experience. but as the genre evolved (and a lot of the original games in that space (like Meme Maker by Dued1) either got shut down or neglected), I decided to pivot and turn it into a full-blown 2.5D animation sandbox.

A few weeks ago, i released the v4.5 update, which was a big milestone. Most 2D Roleplays on the platform rely on static decal IDs or premades. I wanted to go beyond that and build an actual Spritesheet engine where players can configure their own rows/columns/frames to create walk cycles, jump states, and custom emotes.

What’s new with v4.5-4.5x:

  • Revamped Morph GUI: Redesigned for better mobile compability
  • 1-sided/billboard camera-facing morph type
  • Spritesheet Engine with state-linked sounds (audios that trigger on walk, idle, emote, etc.)
  • Cropping images/spritesheets
  • 1000 recents/favorite (images and morphs) slots
  • morph inspect GUI to favorite/take others’ configurations (if they allow it) and a quick-report system (before that, you could only report via player list).
  • Image spoilering (blurs morph, players have to press to reveal)
  • New maps: Backrooms, Content Creator (greenscreen) room

The struggle:

The main (or only) struggle is UX (user experience). I suppose spritesheets may be a bit technical for the average player. i recently implemented a tutorial to try to improve that.
CCU is hitting some new records (110-140), but I still see a lot of “how do i animate?” in the chatlogs.

I’m looking for any and all feedback, but specifically ui/ux and performance (any lags/crashes? if yes, when?)

I’ll appreciate any insights!

Update

Apart from stability fixes and other new stuff, I have recently improved the UX of the morphgui (certain setting panels are now collapsable, toggles/buttons instead of morph type/image type dropdowns), and various optimizations such as using camera-facing surfacegui instead of billboardgui (billboardgui is very unoptimized with scale+textscaled. offset wouldn’t be a good option because it makes it look big and it clutters small screens, etc)
I also doubled emote slots (e.g. instead of 2 slots for players w/o membership, they have 4. and highest tier has 12 slots).

despite having a tutorial guiding through the morph gui and topbar hint labels show by default (shows on hover, disappears on unhover), i still see some players asking how to animate, or even how to morph.

idk if i’m missing something or if the ux could be improved. lmk what you guys think
