One could argue “this is supposed to be a professional place” which would usually be my take on that specific point, however I wholeheartedly agree with this, especially considering how the mods are getting more and more inconsistent/lax with rule enforcement.
If lounge was public, it’d SIGNIFICANTLY cut down on the garbage shoved into Development Discussion because “there was nowhere else it belonged” (despite of course said posts not belonging there either)
I really do hope we get a public lounge or offtopic sort of section, would be so nice.
Lounge is currently a graveyard and as of now, the most recent activity there was from 27 days ago. If you want a place for more casual conversation that wouldn’t fit this forum, there are plenty of discord servers to chat in.
Every time the topic of opening lounge gets brought up, someone always mentions how it’s dead and there’s no activity.
Maybe that’s because, yknow, it’s not open for people to post in?
I doubt a place with maybe like 10 active members max would have multiple daily posts with lots of conversation.
Man, when some of my topics/replies get taken down that’s the reason. Like, sure. My reply talking to someone is taken down for being informal but little Timmy’s 700th Grow a Garden complaint stays up.
It’s like there’s a flag ninja conspiracy out against me.
The forum is very different from discord, it is more tailored towards long discussion as opposed to discord instant messaging nature. Finding a discord server with forum like discussions is very hard
I want to clarify that the category in question, Lounge, is no longer accessible to anyone. Previously, it was indeed possible to chit-chat about anything related or non-roblox related. Over the years, this category has been inactive, specifically because of the trust level problems where any forum user with Member couldn’t use it, only Regular and above, such as Editor and Leader.
Metaphorically speaking, Member and Regular had a lot of ups and downs when it came about what to access within the Developer Forum website. For example:
These categories were only possible if you were a Regular. But there were some workarounds that you could do. If you were a Member and wished to create bug reports and/or feature requests, you had to enter into contact with the forum group @Bug-Support, reviewing and turning your PM (Private Message) into a public post in the category that they chose and that fits with your issue. After some years, they introduced other authentic methods. With the big bug reporting update, forum users can make these posts by first requesting to join the new forum groups, @AllowFeatureRequests and @AllowBugReports. Afterward, you must wait for a Roblox employee to accept your request. Both parties got in the same forum group, and these ups and downs stopped.
Since there aren’t any imbalances or problems with these two trust levels, Regular was viewed as a nothingburger and no longer has “high privileges”. As of this year, the people behind the Developer Forum have recently changed some things. For those who have been Regular have now been transferred to Member:
That said and done, Regular users no longer have access to Lounge. However, here’s the main question that remains unanswered: “Will they open the Lounge category for everyone based on these changes?” — The answer is no.
Even though those who were Regular got devoted, and no longer claimable to say that Regulars can only chat there, the category is inactive and doesn’t follow the current vision of the Developer Forum, which purpose is to seek assistance when developing on Roblox in areas like Building, Modeling, Designing, Programming, etc. — This can be evident by another response from one of the people behind the product (i.e., the forum) from a year ago (that still applies til the current days):
Overall, the future of this category ended. Regulars can’t access after the recent trust level switch; The category got deprioritized and doesn’t follow the content of the Developer Forum.
The alternatives that you can do are discuss topics through other social media platforms such as Guilded, Discord, and so much more. If you’re aware and comfortable using Discord, you can share conversations in a server that the Roblox Developer Relations team made called “Roblox Creators”:
