Group Creation Fails With “Unknown Error” Despite Valid Group Name

Hi,

I’m attempting to create a new Roblox group, but each time I do so I receive an “Unknown Error” notification (see image below):

I’ve confirmed that the group name is not already in use. This issue has been occurring consistently across multiple attempts, including yesterday and today, with no change in behaviour.

Expected behavior

The group should be created successfully once all requirements are met.

Actual behaviour:
Group creation fails and displays an “Unknown Error” message.

I think it doesn’t let you make the group with an empty description. You may have to fill it with something and then try uploading OR also an empty emblem.

I’ve tried already with an emblem and filled out description but it still produces the same error.

um wait sorry i just read the group name. It says ‘‘ASSAULT’’ …

So the name is not allowed? It’s weird because I know a game called exactly that

Recommended Workarounds

  • Try the Roblox App: Bypassing the web browser and using the Roblox mobile app or the official Windows/Mac desktop app often resolves the “Unknown Error”.
  • Use a VPN: This can reroute your request to a different Roblox server that may not be experiencing the internal bug.
  • Modify the Name Slightly: Try a variation like NAVAL A$$AULT. If a variation works, it confirms the original name was being filtered.
  • Re-login or Clear Cache: Log out and back into your account, or clear your browser’s cache and cookies to refresh your session.
  • Disable Extensions

Hi @ThoseNamesAreGood, thanks for bringing this to our attention
The reason you’re seeing an error is because we have some protections in place for Groups renaming. I see you created a group named “Naval Assault” on Dec 19th, and renamed it to something else. When a group’s name is altered, we save the previous name and apply a 90 day cooldown, during which no new groups can be created with that name. This cooldown length is subject to change.
This is for combat abuse (e.g. a new group being created impersonating the previous groups), and in general to reduce confusion between groups.
