[Group Vulnerability] Legitimate ownership transfer causes group ownership to be reset, allowing bots to claim the group

A friend of mine lost ownership of multiple groups after Roblox automatically reset their ownership, leaving them available to be claimed by other accounts. This happened shortly after he legitimately transferred the groups from one account he owned to another account that he also owned. Roblox’s automated systems appear to have incorrectly flagged these transfers as fraudulent and removed the new owner. Once the groups became ownerless, automated bots quickly claimed them, resulting in the groups being stolen.

This creates a serious vulnerability: if a legitimate ownership transfer is mistakenly reversed, bots can take control of the group before the original owner has an opportunity to recover it.

Expected behavior

Roblox should prevent groups from becoming publicly claimable when an ownership transfer is automatically reversed. Ownership should instead be restored to the previous verified owner while the transfer is reviewed.

This same issue occurred for me. To the moderators: I apologize for reposting a similar bug report as this one did not show for me until now.

My group Regional Bus Community just forced the holder account out apparently and some random claimed it from there.

The same thing happened to me and my friend. We have “shared” account, but we live in different countries, and his location changes frequently. But we managed to restore his ownership rights to the community.

I apologize for starting a similar topic if the problem isn’t related to this, but rather to what was mentioned above…

The attacker is transferring control of the experiences from the original group to a new group, apparently without triggering any security restrictions.

Original group:

Destination group:

During this process, the attacker caused a significant drop in the games’ concurrent user count by publishing unauthorized changes and modifying their age restrictions.

This is genuinely worrying, Roblox should rollback any changes done after the groups were compromised, including any ownership, games, and funds changes. Along with that, the accounts of every IP related to the hackers should be banned

I am writing this post just to give some more context on the scale and severity of this attack. Velv (the author of the post) and I are owners of the Quero Games studio, which has operated under several different groups on Roblox, including the ones associated to this post in the private message. As mentioned in the post, yesterday I transferred ownership from my original holder, “azuidoceu”, an account with a verified Roblox checkmark on it, to three new holder accounts (“spookylabdev”, “omundoeummoinho”, “avemariadarua”), all of which were 100% owned solely by me, in the same IP and device. Today, at around 1PM (GMT-3), two of those accounts were locked (“avemariadarua” and “omundeummoinho”) and forcibly kicked from every group they owned.

Because of that, random group claiming bots took over our groups and started transferring ownership of our games to random groups they own in an attempt to steal them even if we get the group back.
I tried contacting support through my original holder “azuidoceu”, however they told me to make a ticket under the new holders (“avemariadarua” and “omundoeummoinho”). This didn’t work (I assume because the accounts were created recently) since whenever I try to make a support ticket via them, they don’t generate one, and instead open this AI chat box that ends every single conversation the same way (giving links to 2FA articles and such).

I have never done anything suspicious in any of those accounts (the only things ever done in them were buy Roblox Plus to keep my games up, verify with the same passport as every account I ever owned, and accept the group ownership transfer request).

I cannot stress how much is at stake for me currently, the groups that were compromised total to around 900K members, had over 10M funds within them, and hosted a collection of games with over 10K concurrent users before they were taken hostage by the hackers into another group (which also made them lose their “All Ages” status, drastically lowering the player count of some games by up to 90%+).

For the most notable instance, we have lost access to the group
O Filho Pródigo which had 488K members, over 8K CCU across all its games (which again, were stolen and put into another group without any permission from the legitimate owners) and 8M funds:

I cannot begin to express how stressful this is, having the risk of losing something you worked so hard for due to no fault of your own except Roblox’s own security flaws and then having to deal with AI chat bots. I was counting on that money for my college, to pay my studio of 12 different developers, and to save up to eventually move out. Ownership of all the groups caught in this should be immediately reverted to their rightful owners and any actions taken by the hackers should be immediately reversed, along with a thorough investigation on them, banning any account associated with their IP or in the hack.

Similar thing happened with my friend today. this morning, my friend’s UGC group doilbaby was transferred at around 4AM EST to a holder account with premium and age verification. The transfer went as usual and there were no issues until the morning of July 17th, when he noticed that the group had a default profile picture and the holder changed to an account named “spotlcd”. Upon waking up and reviewing the situation he determined the following happened, Roblox locked the holder for “suspicious activity” auto leaving the group on it when a group-claiming bot joined the group and automatically claimed it, deleting all group roles to prevent any further changes to be made (the same thing that happened to me). The freshly made holder account has since been unlocked and verified as a legitimate account; however, the group is still in the hands of the claimer. All the UGC in it has gone offsale due to the claimer not having Plus or Premium which is causing the group to lose its revenue, on top of it not being in my friend’s hands.

Hello @SoQueroChocolate , thank you for your patience. We’ve identified and fixed an issue with our account locking process which resulted in the removal of group ownership belonging to locked accounts. Additionally, we’ve investigated and restored the groups in question. If necessary, please contact customer support for any questions/concerns about accounts that were locked.

We take these kind of issues very seriously, and we’ll take rigorous steps internally to do a retrospective on this and add additional hardening so that bugs like this do not reoccur in the future. Thank you, and we sincerely apologize for this issue.

Hello, is this resolution only for specific groups acknowledged or is there a planned solution for the groups that haven’t spoken on the DevForum. I have the exact same issue however my group is being passed down bot after bot since this occurred.

Thank you so much for looking into the issue and fixing it. My studio and I have regained access and are doing a thorough check on all the groups and their games to make sure none of them got compromised/tampered with. The hacker managed to message me on discord and told me they downloaded all the rbxl files for all the games in the groups, however I am aware nothing can be done to fix that issue. As for the funds, they all appear to be there and match more or less the number we had on our excels for 07/15, and we saw no robux transfer in the audit log. Again, I cannot express how happy I am that this got resolved in a single day, thank you so much for the quick action and fast communication!

My friend also recently lost ownership of his group Bundle’O Clock (Group ID: 169453269) after what appears to have been an issue involving Roblox’s account security lock system. The group was originally owned by his holder account, BundleHoldings. Earlier today, he discovered that the group had been taken over by another account. When he attempted to access BundleHoldings, the account was under a “Suspicious Activity” security lock. After reviewing the group’s audit logs, his studio found that BundleHoldings had somehow abandoned the community while the account was locked, even though he never intentionally left the group or transferred ownership. Within minutes, another account (FastestClaimerUwU) claimed ownership of the group. That account then removed members, changed roles and permissions, and made several other administrative changes before eventually abandoning the group as well, allowing another account to claim ownership. I’ve attached screenshots of both the account security lock and the group’s audit log showing the sequence of events.

To the best of his knowledge, he never voluntarily left the group, transferred ownership, or authorized anyone else to take control of it. The only unusual event was the security lock placed on BundleHoldings. From what he can tell, once the account became locked, it was somehow removed as the group’s owner, leaving the group publicly claimable. This appears very similar to other reports where a legitimate owner was removed during a security lock, allowing claim bots to immediately take ownership.

Roblox support has already been contacted, but he wanted me to post it in this thread too.

Same thing has just happened to my friend, he has had his 500K member group sniped down by a notorious scammer and doxxer called ProRecreation who keeps making alts and verifying them then backdoor beaming groups just like this. My friend’s lost thousands over this and we are unable to get the group back and we are currently in conversations with roblox.

The verified badges need to be re-restricted heavier because he has verified like 10+ accounts and are using them to beam new developers.

Hello @lm_gameon , sorry to bother you on another thread, but I’m experiencing a very similar backend issue and was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction.

My account richgeeks was successfully un-terminated after an appeal, but all of the communities owned by the account remained locked afterward:

Richgeeks — ID: 63397965
Obamason — ID: 647495235
Forsent — ID: 426759108
JZN — ID: 428958173
Lowkenuinly — ID: 588303120

I’ve already submitted a bug report with the full details and direct links. My account is restored and in good standing, but the communities are still inaccessible.

This has completely frozen my creator workflow because these communities were my main source of Robux.

I’ve just made a post in this same forum and subcategories a few hours ago with more details on the situation.

Would you be able to take a look or help escalate this to the appropriate team? Thank you, and sorry again for reaching out here.

Hi! @lm_gameon

I need your support, my account was copromised and I lost ownership to my game and all Robux.
Who I am? I am Roblox Developer from Poland (nickname Diamentowy337). I have the game which have around 600k visits. Luckily, I recovered my account, but without game and Robux.
I created Roblox Support ticket (ticket id: 177827738), but it was rejected.
I am writing to you, because you supported a lot of people.

Link to the stolen game: North Poland:Masuria | Play on Roblox
Link to the original game community: North Poland:Masuria Official Group - Roblox

Recover the game and all Robux means a lot of to me, because I spended a lot of time to achieve them.
Lost Robux on the account (around 19k) and on the group (around 95k). I also have screenshots of unauthorized transactions.

Write if you have any questions :)))

Thanks for help and stay tuned!
