Group wall feed on home page

I know that groups are sometimes used quite a lot and even more so now that they are being used for development purposes and I thought that it would be a cool feature if we could add a group’s wall to our homepage so we could keep tabs on what’s going on in the group without having to go to that group’s page every time we want to check it. This can get annoying because there isn’t really a quick shortcut to get to them, especially if they aren’t your primary group. It would also be awesome if it auto updated whenever someone makes a new post on the wall and if we could post to the wall right from our homepage, kind of like updating your status but posting on the group wall instead.

Group posts are already shown on the home page?

Those are the group shouts that you get in your feed, what I’m asking for is another section like that but it will show the group wall that is commonly used as a discussion chat area for group members. Basically this thing in the picture, but on your homepage.

I’m not sure how useful this would be. It would only be usable with groups that don’t see a lot of post volume, so none of the big, popular ones (imagine your feed being clogged with 100s of posts and then being replaced with 100 more). It would be much more useful if instead of duplicating the group wall into your homepage feed, you could subscribe to:

  • new activity on the wall (would stack instead of creating multiple, so you’d only have 1 notification even if 100 posts are made)
  • someone @mentions your name
  • someone replies to one of your posts (no such architecture of replying to specific people with the current implementation, but hopefully there will be after a group overhaul)

and you’d get a little dot on Groups in the sidebar (similar to friend requests / messages) to let you know about it, and potentially also push notifications.
