Hinges appear to be more flexible, depending on where the player is in relation to them.
I have multiple hinged doors in my Bomber game, with a BodyPosition in them to make the doors close. They have worked fine for about a year, but within the last week the doors appear out of position and twitching around until your character gets within about 15-20 studs of the door then it seems to straighten out. When you walk away the doors glitch again.
My big hangar door (hinged horizontally and driven by a BodyVelocity controlled by scripted buttons) now twitches out of position and actually bounces into other Anchored parts and locks into those parts.
It has happened every time I’ve gone into my game within the last week. I haven’t made any changes to the doors, the BodyPositions, or the locations of the doors in months.
Something’s definitely wrong with the physics engine.
I was testing a few things on an online server yesterday, and certain parts would just partially glitch into the baseplate until a player touched them.
Do you guys have any examples of this that we can reproduce?
Just play this game and see what has happend to it D:
The boats lag/ jump around.
Here ya go…
I tried submitting some video but it didn’t seem to work.
Managed to reproduce. This is pretty spooky, you just stand and look at how the doors randomly spaz out. Demonz!
Hinge physics have been going downhill for years. I used to use hinge-based chains in Hanging Fortresses, and they worked pretty well at first, but as the years passed and Roblox changed stuff, the eventually became so spazzy that I had to switch to separate links that relied on collision. Now the links often slip through each other, causing the fortresses to fall prematurely. I could make it a fun game if I wasn’t constantly battling Roblox’s updates…
Seriously, hinges are just getting very annoying… Meanwhile other games get’s nice hinges, we have to stick with these oldschool quickies…
So sad that the joint project got cancelled…

That was because of Cr34t0r leaving, was it not?
Does this happen while testing, on a live game, or both?

The project hit a wall, something about not being able to integrate the new hinges into the rest of the physics properly.
Khanovich, it seems to happen in Play only. Haven’t had an issue in Test > Play Solo with them.
I also have a spinning arm in my boat obby that was working fine, but now the arm bounces pretty randomly around its hinge and motor axis.
It has no BodyPosition or BodyAngularVelocity or BodyGyro in it, just a motor and a hinge placed in 2 anchored bricks above and below the arm.
I see a similar complaint about using BodyPosition and BodyAngularVelocity in this thread:
And I was thinking that the BodyVelocity and BodyPosition I had in my doors could have been causing my issue, but this spinning arm has no BodyAnythings in it.
Is it a bug with any moving object other than vehicles? Boats and cars with hinges or motors don’t seem to be affected, and neither do CFramed moving parts (I have other Anchored CFramed obstacles in other games that move just fine).
I also notice my character seems to get tripped up by small steps (.1 studs or so) occasionally and just falls over.
Don’t know it they’re all related…
The post you linked seems to be related to different problem. You reported this issue before the issue in the linked post was possible, so I believe your issue is unrelated.
This is happening in your B52 place? I’m going to take a look and see if I can track down when this started happening and what the behavior is. If you can provide me with any more hints, I would be much obliged.
EDIT: Nevermind, I’m having an incredibly easy time reproducing this on my local machine using your B52 Hangar place. Thank you! I’m trying to pinpoint when this issue was introduced!
We figured it out. In about an hour we should have things working again. Please let me know if in about an hour and a half you are still having issues.
So many thanks, everything seems to be working properly now.
Awesomeness multiplied by spectacularity!
