There is an issue across Roblox where the Headless Horseman cannot be purchased inside games. Attempting to buy a bundle ingame results in a purchase failure message, preventing users from completing the transaction.
For example, when trying to buy the Headless Horseman bundle inside the game Catalog Avatar Creator, the following error appears after clicking purchase:
This is a problem because in games such as Catalog Avatar Creator, they build on the idea of notifying players that the Headless Horseman is onsale for the month of October, and they incentivize players to purchase the bundle when they are prompted to purchase an outfit which uses Headless. This usually leads to Roblox receiving a majority of their sales from the bundle in virtual item stores like Catalog Avatar Creator.
Instead, an error message is returned and the player may lose interest, or worse, believe that the bundle isnât really for sale, or that they arenât able to purchase it. This leads to Roblox garnering less sales year after year, and in time will result in negative coverage of the bundle when these sales go live.
Expected behavior
Bundles should be purchasable directly in-game without error. When I click purchase on a bundle such as Headless Horseman, the transaction should process successfully, Robux should be deducted from my account, and the bundle should immediately appear in my inventory just as it does when buying through the Roblox website.
I understand what youâre saying, but I donât think that explanation justifies the current situation. The reality is that most players buy bundles like Headless Horseman directly through games such as Catalog Avatar Creator since thatâs where they try them on, showcase them to friends, and make their purchasing decisions. Turning off in-experience purchases for an item this popular cuts off the main way the majority of players actually interact with it.
As for the few people who may have used tricks to get a 40% discount, thatâs a very small fraction of buyers and doesnât represent the broader player base. Disabling the entire in-experience purchase system to block those edge cases hurts far more people than it protects. In fact, the end result is that it pushes demand into unhealthy directions: instead of stopping discounts, it just encourages account buying and reselling from users who had already purchased the bundle at 40% off back when the trick was available.
In the end, this leads to less sales of the original Headless Horseman while fueling a black market which Roblox has no involvement in.
I think Roblox can easily fix this by enabling item purchases just for the marketplace and Catalog Avatar Creator made by muneeb. This would be an easy fix!
I understand the annoyance about this, however believe that if Roblox intended this item to be able to be purchased in experiences, they wouldâve left it that way. Years ago it used to be like that, but they changed it intentionally.
Turning off in-experience purchases harms creators who sell accessories in their experiences. Roblox should enable the Headless Horseman to be sold in experience as to not encroach on developer profits via commissions.
I would agree with you, But Catalog Avatar Creator isnât the only game which utilizes an ingame avatar store and marketplace, and it isnât the only experience which Roblox funnels revenue from.
Infact, as a UGC Creator, itâs quite amazing to have access to the analytics feature which allows you to see where you are funneling your revenue from, and Catalog Avatar Creator clearly isnât the only place which has players making these types of purchases. If my data looks like this, Iâm almost certain Roblox has similar results.
Another good point. Catalog Avatar Creator pushes a Headless Horseman purchase by allowing players to design, customize and create their own character before they are ready to making a final decision, in the process motivating the player to purchase the bundle in the form they see fit.
Should Catalog Avatar Creator be punished because a few amount of players have decided to abuse the ingame purchasing feature?
Could be very easily fixed if top games got access to sell this. However since this is only one item facing this issue, itâw most likely an intentional change done by Roblox.
Roblox like any creators on the platform have the rights to choose where their creations can be sold
I would love for Roblox to change this but realistically speaking they might not.
A complex solution, but I definitely see what you mean. Iâd like to see Roblox comment on this too, as when the change was done, it wasnât communicated to any of us as to what reason they decided on to change where the bundle could be sold.
40% is a general term for ingame purchasing, Every game gets a 40% commision on purchases of ingame items, not sure what your point is here.
As I said in my other post:
As for the few people who may have used tricks to get a 40% discount, thatâs a very small fraction of buyers and doesnât represent the broader player base. Disabling the entire in-experience purchase system to block those edge cases hurts far more people than it protects.
Developers are usually treated to that 40% commision for encouraging purchases, but in these cases, no purchase or commision is given at all, and customers that usually end up purchasing the bundle on a whim ingame may decide not to, especially considering the recent post you made:
Desperate players are already resorting to alternatives to 40%, which are actually just virus models that end up taking your Robux through fradulent gamepasses and developer products.
This isnât a bug. Roblox turned off the âSell in Experiencesâ option for that bundleâs Sale Location, which prevents you from purchasing it in-game. Itâs their own decision on their own platform.
They did this to ensure that players pay the full 31,000 Robux price without any discount. This would prevent players from using the â40% method.â
However, I think they should still allow the Headless Horseman to be sold only in certain experiences, such as your Catalog Avatar Creator. If that is not an option, then they should consider enabling regional pricing for this item.
