For our new game Bomber we are heavily using CSG. (Since our lead builder DysfunctionalBrick uses it to create holes, etc), our beta users are reporting that the game gets laggy. If a ROBLOX engineer can comment on it, or tell us some ways to cut it down. (Yes, we are looking into the Physics data, and perhaps a option to make a ‘box collider’ on it, instead of a mesh collider would fix a lot of things. We are only using it for scenery.)
What type of lag?
Fps?
Internet?
Physics?
Type of Lag : FPS.
OS : Windows 7
Problem :
- Multiple players are posting us with the fact that they can see other players fly, and all that kind of stuff.
Detailed description :
When Players are jumping around it looks like they are played in slow motion, or just players that are floating around. We get that we need to wait a few seconds before ‘releasing’ the Player to the world. (Since the data of the Unions need to stream from the Cloud). But that the Players are laggy, is just weird.
I don’t know.
I wen’t to the game and had a stable 60FPS, might just be my machine.
I’ve heard from many people that CSG does drop FPS if used aggressively. Kind of makes sense seeming as how the parts are far more detailed.
I was having frame rate drops when I just entered the game for like a few seconds.
But after that the game runs quite smoothly, and I’m also using a Windows 7 OS.
The thing is that you need to have other Players in the game to actually see the problem. Players aren’t moving smoothly, it looks like the Rendering of the object is running behind the actually data of the object
"Players aren’t moving smoothly, it looks like the Rendering of the object is running behind the actually data of the object "
Yes – that’s due to an Interpolation bug that has been around for about a week now that the admins know about and still haven’t rolled back the update responsible.
as echo said, it’s not because of CSG, but the problem could be exaggerated because of it
I think it may be due both to the CSG stuff (maybe) and the smoke particles, though I’ve never really heard of framerate problems due to CSG, I thought it was mainly just longer loading times. Anyway, I’ve learned that having more than a couple of smoke particles at once can cause some players to have framerate issues. Personally I’m getting 60 FPS though. Really nice place by the way.
