Me and my friend released an update for our game that is an obby where you get limited amount of jumps to complete each level, with stylized locations, potions, character upgrades and 300 hand crafted levels and I wanted to ask for help with making a decision on whether should we continue working on it or should we just move on to the next project, because we can’t or maybe don’t have the knowledge on how to grow a playerbase for this game.
We tried running sponsorships through the ads manager on Roblox and we did even get a couple of dev product sales, but the problem is that while the ads are running we get up to like 20 CCU but as soon as the daily budget is hit, it drops down to 0 and it seems like no one is really coming back, but I’m not 100% sure as the analytics tool hasn’t updated yet with data from our latest ad campaign, but it looks like no one is coming back.
We also tried making content both on YouTube shorts and TikTok and while some videos did get up to a couple thousand views, there wasn’t a way to really track how many of the views convert into players, so after publishing like 20 videos we decided to stop trying to make videos about the game.
Currently, the only option we have left is trying to reach out to content creators and ask them whether they’d want to record/stream our game, while hoping that this would attract players to the game, but looking back to what we have already tried, it seems to me like the game isn’t really good enough to even try reaching out to content creators.
I would really appreciate some ideas and thoughts about it and in case anyone wants to check out the game, here’s a link: Obby Of Life - Roblox
I develop as a hobby and I’ve only gotten a playerbase 1 time and that was spending only 50 robux on the old ads. I know my games will never be successful but I still develop since it is fun.
do what you think is right, in this situation I would just keep working on the game.
Personally I say just move on. Sounds like a great game idea, but an obby isn’t a game where people keep coming back. It’s like a one time thing. It’s fun at first, but then you get bored and don’t play it.
That’s probably why it’s not growing.
If you do want to make obbies though, make a 2 player obby. Those are trending a lot rn. You have to be fast if u make one cuz it won’t stay popular for too long.
There’s over a billion games on the platform and without advertising there isn’t really a way to get players. Advertising also costs about 75% more now so I don’t even bother spending my money on it. I just develop as a hobby instead.
I will most likely move to the next project, because even if there’s a chance to grow this game, it’d be way out of my budget and also it just feels like I’m done with it and there’s nothing I could or want to add to it.
But, at the same time, looking at all of the other obbies that have a stable amount of CCU, it makes me think that maybe there is actually a chance to grow my obby without spending huge amounts of money and I just haven’t found it, which is why I’m not sure whether I should keep trying to grow it or just put it on the shelf and move on to the next project.
Have you tried making content on social media about your games? It costs nothing and gives you a chance to get your game in front of other people which might like it.
Wouldn’t it be even more fun to develop games, if you could see that there are people that actually like what you have made, are talking about it with their friends, making memories in your game and having a good time?
Why don’t you try to start making content about your games?
You don’t need to spend all of your time on making the content, just 1 video a week would be enough and it doesn’t even have to be about a ready game, you could make videos about your progress with the games you’re working on.
Most likely, there wouldn’t be much feedback at the start, but over time if you just keep posting and posting and posting, more and more people would start noticing you and eventually this might be how people would find your games or how you would build an audience of people that are interested in what you are creating.
In the worst case if there just wouldn’t be anything happening with your content, you would have something to look back on for yourself, which is also amazing.
