Help Replicating Pre-Legacy Lighting Removal Material Look

Here’s a comparison of how a part with the ice material looked before and after the removal of legacy lighting technology. Keep in mind both parts in the images have the same properties.

Since the change, the ice has lost much of its texture and depth, which really bothers me. Does anyone know how I can replicate the original look with the current lighting system? Any tips on material settings, lighting adjustments, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

If they actually changed the material, then you can just reupload the normals as a SurfaceAppearance to replicate the old look. I have no idea why they thought that this new one was acceptable as it hardly even looks like ice.

I believe they really had no choice since the legacy lighting caused problems and was outdated but they really did a poor job with some of the materials.

Materials were changed in 2020 to be compatible with pbr. Unfortunately they don’t look identical. For example the ice material separately calculated specularity and reflection of the skybox, now it is done using metalness and roughness textures, you can try adding a metalness map and increase it to about 0.2
