First of all, this has already been asked numerous times:
https://devforum.roblox.com/search?q=learn%20scripting

Second, there are official tutorials available:

Thank you, I know perfectly well that this has been asked countless times, is that I really felt insecure reading the other topics and decided to post mine that for some reason clarifies better. (don’t care I’m weird)

It’s nice that you want to start developing on the ROBLOX platform!

For an easy start, start by looking up some basic tutorials on YouTube about the things you want to get better in. You can also just search videos for basic knowledge about ROBLOX scripting.

Besides that, you can also read posts on the Developer Forum and read through the code and maybe learn a thing or two from them.

If this didn’t help you, let me know. :+1:

My fear is that the internet is open for anyone to post what they want on youtube, and I’m afraid to learn wrong with someone who doesn’t know what he is talking about, quite a few people complain about an alvinblox, for example. Could you recommend a channel for me? If not, no problem!

I started off by just reading the ROBLOX documentation and experimenting around with some scripts and reading up on how other models I liked were made.

But if you want some good ROBLOX channels to help you start scripting, I recommend the following, these are ones that I started off with:

AlvinBlox
Okeanskiy
Eppobot
DutchDeveloper

If you want to know more, just message me through my DevForum messages and I can maybe teach you a thing or two if you want!
Cheers.

Hey, I’d recommend 3 things:

  1. Get started making things; have a simple idea. Have a goal in mind and then continue onto step 2 and 3.
  2. Use whatever resources you can find online; YouTube, Roblox API, Roblox DevForum, etc.
  3. Keep repeating this; the best way to learn is to do and struggle.

And don’t get discouraged if you mess up, or don’t get things right, because trust me… we all do that. With that out of the way, here’s some resources I can personally recommend:

  • YouTube VIdeos: TheDevKing Beginners Tutorial Series, TheDevKing Advanced Tutorial Series, and AlvinBlox. Don’t be afraid to follow other YouTubers though; see what others recommend and tag along, as I don’t think it could be detrimental if you learn a few bad habits along the way. Good habits build upon old bad ones; just make sure to find the best sources.

  • The Roblox Developer Forum: I don’t mean to ask questions 24/7 (if you can help it), but rather to search on google or the devforum for something you’re looking for before asking. For example, if I’m having an error in my script, I’ll make use of google and search for my error like this: [my error message here] roblox devforum. And sometimes I’ll find help on other sites as well. If you just can’t’ fix a problem you’re having, then feel free to ask a question; we’re all here to help!

  • Books: There aren’t a number of books I can recommend, but if you like reading books, the only one I can back up is this one by Heath Haskins. I definetely think one could get away with not reading it whatsoever, but if you’re into books and have a few bucks to spare, it’s worth a shot, as it’s helpful and mostly consise.

  • Roblox API: 100% The most reliable reference you can go by. If you can’t understand a certain function, try searching google for it with “Roblox”, or “Roblox API” at the end, and you’ll likely stumble across a Roblox API page, or a DevForum page.

  • Myself (lol): Cheesy, I know, but if you have questions feel free to message me up on the DevForum any time! I’m happy to help with whomever needs assistance with their code. But once again, just keep. Trying. New. Things. If it gets old, switch it up, if you need help, hit me up! But in all seriousness, if you want to develop your scripting skills, always try new things, big or small, and know how much is reasonable for yourself to handle. And always overestimate the time it’ll take for you to finish something. I’ve made the mistake of thinking I could do something “in weeks,” just to find out it took me months.

I hope I’ve helped, and have a good week!
