(Previous post: Regarding Heroes of the Forest)
About The Game
Development on Heroes of the Forest was discontinued on August 2023. The reasons involve a controversy with the game’s owner and the team generally wanting to move onto other projects.
Will Heroes of the Forest still get updates?
No. Developers had their edit permissions revoked by the owner. Extra areas and seasonal events are no longer available for this reason.
There’s a bug breaking [insert thing here]!
Can’t do anything about that. No edit permissions. Sorry.
Where’s the Twitter / Discord?
The Twitter account and Discord server were both deleted by the owner.
About Fan-Derivative Works
Please don’t make fanworks or fangames.
I was okay with fanworks at first, but it’s clear that the game is still a touchy subject with people. Artists have stated that they do not want their characters associated with anything HotF-related anymore.
For this reason, please do not use any of the characters from the game (Hallie, Turtle Man, Moven, etc.). It is best if you have your project fully disassociated from HotF.
Instead…
If you like HotF and want to make a game similar to it, consider doing a spiritual successor with your own original story and cast. I promise you’ll get more out of it that way, and you can even foster your own fandom and community with it.
You don’t need to be tied down by what HotF did. Get creative and make something that 100% belongs to you!
Are there any HotF assets I can use for my own game?
Some assets like the dialogue system and the movement system (double jump, air dash) have been made open-source here: funky movement playground - Roblox.
Feel free to use them for your own projects or as a way to learn how stuff works.
So now what?
Community Wall → Fandom
The community wall was shut down by Roblox in December 2025. The Fandom wiki is still up if you want a place to post. I personally won’t be a part of it since I really really really want to move on from HotF entirely.
Will HotF close down?
Unclear. But since there are no more updates and Roblox likes breaking old games, you can probably expect HotF to become less and less playable over time. Please keep that in mind.
Closing Statement
When I first wrote this forum post, I said this:
“The best thing to do now is to just let the game rest.”
I won’t try to knock anyone who still has an attachment to this game. If you enjoy this game, that’s fine. But everyone involved with it, myself included, no longer wants anything to do with this project. I only ask that you acknowledge the game’s shaky development history and respect that wish.
I’d like to end this off by saying thank you for supporting the project for the past few years. I hope you have or will continue to enjoy what the game has to offer in its current state.
