I would imagine it’s not quite that simple. R6 is a very old rig with a lot of legacy behaviors attached to it.
I’d be curious to see the examples!
This is not an issue with modeling, this is an issue with legacy engine behaviors. Technically, updating R6 to not use specialmeshes could be a breaking change for R6 games that rely on the specialmesh API.
The path of least friction for you is to use the rig that’s been the standard for 10+ years.
Any news on the new realistic bodies? have not heard any direct news about it but i see it being used in examples like these so surely it’s still being worked on
They were tested using by just placing the accessories into starter character and I had no issues, besides not being allowed to upload the static accessory onto UGC!
Here’s a recent instance of utilizing accessory fitting tool plugin which allows me to auto setup R6 avatars with Meshpart PBR! So even Roblox’s own plugin allows this too (For context. Most of the accessories are Meshpart’s here and not Specialmesh)
Staff have been pretty explicit before that they also make a lot of decisions on whether or not new features should support R6 based on the fact that the majority of games using R6 do so because it doesn’t have those modern features.
The last thing developers want is their games suddenly breaking because R6 had unexpected changes to things that have been consistent for ages (such as accessories using SpecialMesh instead of MeshParts). If you and players want higher quality avatars then you should be using R15.
-- quick question, i imagine i know the answer already but will this apply to R6 as well? i know R6 code isn’t really touched anymore, but I also know people aren’t super happy with R6’s inconsistent texture quality
Can we get 2k textures with all that for 2d clothing next . Another Metaverse platform called Second Life added that to their platform last Febuary so it would be awesome if Roblox was at that same level.
I second this, you can only equip a few R6 accessories before the textures start to lose their quality, when the same accessories on R15 look fine. I believe it’s because R6 has to cram all face, accessory, and clothing textures into a small atlas so they lose a lot of detail. Please increase the size of the R6 avatar atlas so they can have HD textures too!
I think that they are likely planning on dealing with r6 having low resolution textures by allowing r15 avatars in r6 experiences using the r6 to r15 adapter which lets people make places with r15 characters that move and act like r6 avatars.
And in the thread “Completing the Dynamic Head Migration” this was said:
The important part of this paragraph being “one unified avatar system” implying the end of r6 and r15 as seperate avatar systems in the future.
Would like to see an official response too of course.
Just tested and my stuff looks insane; this is genuinely the most happy I’ve every been on this platform–a million times thank you. UGCs bouta look Triple-A. Thanks again
Can roblox add a way to update already uploaded ugc? Feels kinda wasteful having to spend robux to fix layered clothing fit mistakes and it would be good use case in updates like this texture quality increase.
