February 2021 stats, pre appearance update:
Hockey mask sold on average over one time per day (35 times in February) and had a Recent Average sale Price (RAP) of 30k Robux
2025 stats, post appearance update:
Hockey mask has only sold 42 times in 2025, with a Recent Average sale Price (RAP) of 5794 Robux, an over 80% drop in value and resale volume.
These stats illustrate just how unpopular the update to appearance was and the negative impact it has had on the item’s demand and value.
It might be too late to do anything about it now but its unfair to those that have owned it for a long time or bought it for its original look. Roblox is against changing the looks of items due to it being unfair those that bought the item expecting it to look for a certain way only for it to be changed. So how come this rule doesn’t apply to this item either? Yes copyright is copyright but the remake didn’t have to look so much different from the original. From what I know the only infringing part should’ve been the texture so wouldn’t it be possible to keep the original mesh but change the texture. If thats not the case
For the mesh if it has to be remade it should look as similar to the original as possible
I made a mockup remake of the hockey mask which is a more middle ground between the two versions
Make the mesh the same as the original or as similar as possible to the original
Make a brand new texture which is similar enough to the original
If you’re unable to make it too close to the original try to make the design a sort of a fusion of the original and new one
Remove the strap as it hinders customizability and it would be closer to the original
At the very least the hockey mask should be revisited in order to make a version that the community is more happy with, something that doesn’t cause copyright problems and is still well received like the original.
For people that owned the hockey mask originally or people that own it now what would you like to see?
EDIT: Altered the mockup I made to have less similar markings to the original (because I think thats a majority of the copyright problems)
If the item was changed due to copyright reasons, reverting it to a nearly identical version would just lead to the same issue again — so it wouldn’t make any sense for Roblox to do that.
Bump, I (and I assume many others) actually love this change alot. Creates something new while maintaining the grittiness and grunge the original had. Though I don’t own the hat myself I would love to hear what they have to say.
I really agree that at the very least, the mesh for this item never should have been updated, as the infringing part of this item that caused it to be updated was only the texture. Also, the completely different color scheme completely ruined the ability to even attempt to continue wearing the item in the outfits that owners used to wear with it. Unfortunately, I think this ended up being easily the worst handled item update Roblox had ever made to a valuable limited item. As someone that actually owned this item at the time it was updated, I think it would be great to see this item revisited to make it more in line with the original version of the item.
I think ideally, I’d love to see the original mesh for this item return with a brand new texture similar to the original, but minus the infringing red marks on the mask. I think the most important elements overall are the original mask’s shape & size, and the grunge-brown mask texture that was the most noticeable element of the mask’s appearance.
The model you made for the mask actually looks a lot better than the current version of it, and it looks closer to the first version of the mask. I think it should be switched to this new version to have the appearance better.
I think roblox could definitely just redo a much better job here, a new retexture that matches the new mask, but have the original color scheme & the original mesh.
Additionally, this would allow roblox to re-publish the remodeled mask as a standalone item which everybody can buy.
